Hi all-

I just bought an iPhone and the good news for .mobi is that I find it better to browse namepros using the Namepros.mobi address, because it loads faster (the iPhone doesn't support g3 or 3g or whatever the heck it is) and fits in the screen without scrolling.

It's good to have a memorable address for the mobile version, and I quite like the fact that it's namepros.mobi instead of mobile.namepros.com, because it's faster to type and easier to remember.

I'm generally pessimistic about the future of the .mobi extension, but it has its benefits, thought I'd just share a .mobi skeptic's positive .mobi experience :)

I think the .mobi registry could save themselves and .mobi investors if they really marketed the extension very skilfully. And I don't mean to domainers; that's just for cashing in on domainer speculation - I mean to the general public, think Superbowl ads, TV, buses, airports, and so on. Like really brand it. I don't think they've managed that, and as long as they don't I will remain a .mobi skeptic..

A New Brandable Extension for the New Smaller (Mobile) Screened Internet is certainly a breath of fresh air on a vast majority of fronts. No one should underestimate just how much we all appreciate, need and love these little cell phones of ours. In time .mobi will certainly be embraced by the masses...for good reason, especially from the up and coming N'GIU's "New Generation Internet Users" of today.

A lot of companies are now just becoming aware that the Mobile Web is becoming more and more noteworthy as the New Business Essential by each and every new passing minute.

I'm sure that we'll see Businesses Marketing their .mobi and or others such as Bank of America possibly launching their bofa.mobi Mobile Banking commercial during the 2008 Olympics this upcoming Summer, before anyone sees anything on a grand scale as far as Marketing goes from Mtld.

I think they have a business plan and are doing a fairly decent job of sticking to it.

It would take an enormous amount of money to get the brand into the minds of the public - and then where is the call to action? They need something to do.mobi.

The extension is best marketed to potential website owners, one on one, at business conferences, which mTLD is doing a fairly good job of, encouraging their big gun investors to move some of their effort into .mobi sites - (Nokia yes, Google and Microsoft no) and cultivating the upcoming generation of website developers - and I have no idea how you can do that beyond just growing.

I am a new iPhone owner myself as of a week ago. I am responding while on it right now. Mobi sites run great on it-- nice and fast. I was using namepros.mobi initially but was annoyed by some of the glitches in it being rendered by safari so I switched over to the .com. Actually once I got used to the scrollobg and zooming it is all very natural feeling using the full site.

I have seen some sites that have been designed specificly for the iPhone. There is a developer kit called "iUI" downloadable from google.com that helps webmasters build iPhone sites. Not sure if it is .mobi compliant though. Anyone know? If it is I might give it a try on some of my own .mobis.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, everyone.

Let me know when you develop your .mobi's. If you can get them to a 4/5 or 5/5 on ready.mobi, I can add them to mobiEnthusiast.mobi. 22% of the traffic to that site is via mobile phone, and my awstats reads like a world map, so code compliance is pretty important. I'm always looking for new sites to feature so pm me when they're ready.

As for marketing, I would like to see more of what Esa described as well.

coast - If you haven't added them, how about doing so for these if you don't mind. All are 5/5. Thanks for considering ...

In regards to the iPhone alone the nod certainly has to go to Apple for making the effort for viewing normal full size web sites via the smaller screen.

If the iPhone were to be placed in one of two catagories; 1. Internet Tablet with PC and Cell Phone Cababilities, or 2. Cell Phone with PC and Internet abilities, (I assume that only iPhone users themselves would really be the ones to render that question adequate) but I would think that it would fall right into that first catagory beings that it's a product from a computer company.

I don't think anyone can argue with the fact that we all like having plenty of options, regardless of what type of device or product line it is. The iPhone certainly fills the gap in that catagory.
