I like premium names because of easy advertising. I'm saving some $ to purchase another one for $3K per year, when I checked it today the price is $4.5K per year.

Another one from$1750 increased to $5K.

The price increased even the domain was not registered in the first place.

Wow!

Now I can't buy this domain anymore, maybe when my other premium names will pick-up.

Lately, there has been a continuous increase in Premium renewals and a continous increase in the number of available premiums domains. On January 02, there were 52,521 premiums available and today there is 52,977.

Enom must be trying to make up for the lost revenue by hitting a few homeruns from time to time with the new higher priced premiums. IMO.

It all goes back to them not wanting .tv in the hands of resellers.

Even an end user will balk at these prices.

Yes, that would be it, higher average price and lower volumes. this is something buydomains did a few years ago. They doubled prices and saw an overall revenue lift despite the decrease in volume.

I doubt they would care who buys the name as long as revenue is being maximised. I would say though they probably don't want people to be able to make speculative profits, because that is the profits they want.

They would know their is a great deal of money to be made from speculators generally, I suspect domainers buying is possibly their biggest revenue stream, more so than endusers.

I've experimented with this tactic with subscription based businesses that were losing subscribers. It's a temporary solution, and one that increases the risk of accelerating subscriber losses.

Agree 1000%.

It is not possible to generalize with this type of thing, it will depend on many factors. The proof of the pudding will be whether prices are still high in a year.

They are maximizing revenue for the short term. Basically squeezing every last drop out of their money tree. IMO.

It simply isn't known what kind of long term or even short term effect this might be having. If I was them I'd definately try different pricing structures.

Agreed. They're doing what they have to do. I'll give them that. Unfortunately the long-term outlook is grim with this sort of plan. Take a look at the rising (and accelerating) pile of unregistered premiums and you'll see what I mean.
