Perhaps this is a temporary glitch which will resolve in the next day or so but I was trying to renew some .TV names at Godaddy and found that the promo code GDBB776 which has worked for years to effectively allow $25 .TV renewals was not working. I looked for alternate codes and nothing seemed to work either. So at the moment it appears .TV renewals have been jacked up to $35 or a 40% increase. I'm sure if .COM prices were increased 40% Godaddy would see a mass defection to other registrars.

A promotion code should never be expected to work forever. This 40% increase you speak of has nothing to do with a retail pricing increase, but has to do with a great promotional offer that may have finally come to an end. I doubt they would intentionally increase retail pricing 40 or 50% to screw over their customers. All I can say is be greatful while the promotion lasted and maybe a different one will appear as time moves on. :)

That's a good point Snowbird, if this continues that there is no good coupon I would say NameCheap may become the default as they are $25 renewals.

Now I have one name expiring in a few days, I just went through regular checkout, before I put in a coupon code it showed $29.99. I tried the old gdbb776 and it did not work.

I just used GD31227BP per Manos' suggestion to renew at $27.50/name on several names. However, the same thing happened as with the other codes I was trying last night. When you enter the promo code, you get a message stating promo code successfully applied but the line item amount of $34.99 per .TV domain does not change. What does appear is a savings figure and an order total which one can determine how much that is per domain (still not $25 but not the $35 line item figure either). So while I need to try with the old GDBB776 code and see if I get the same result, perhaps Godaddy has mostly changed the way they present the invoice with perhaps a slight increase in the price as well.

OK here goes three more - line item amount appears as $34.99 ($5 savings off list) with an invoice total of $82.78 and a total savings of $37.19 (keep in mind the session is still open with Manos' code still active). When I enter promo code GDBB776 I get message stating promo code successfully applied, the line item amounts stay at $34.99 but the invoice total increases to $104.97 with the savings reduced to $15 (from list of $39.99 each). So basically GDBB776 is dead.

I go back and put in GD31227BP and the $82.78 total returns. So basically .TV renewals at Godaddy appear to have been increased ~10% from last year. Bummer.

Bad news - I did another renewal order this afternoon for a combination of .COM and .TV names. Again, the .TV names show the $34.99 list price with a total invoice order amount of X. I then put in the GD31277BP code Manos suggested. The total invoice price went down a bit so I mistakenly assumed the discount had kicked in (no way to view the correct line item detail net of promo before you hit submit order). When I received the Godaddy email later it showed that on a few of the .TV names the price charged on most was $32.58 with one at $27.93. So going forward I will have to do my .TV renewals separately to make sure the promo code is working correctly. X domains times $27.50 equals some amount. Don't try to mix it in with .COM and .Net renewals.

I just tried a bunch of codes. The one MADZ just posted didn't work for me. I was renewing 2 .TVs. Here's what I found:

Biggest savings:

gdbbe994 = $27.99/each (brought the order for 2 to $55.99)

Also worked:

gda547
bb5020d5
gdbba547 = $31.99/each

I am in the US, so I don't know if there are any geographic restrictions on these. I was also paying with a CC, not Paypal. It looks like nothing will be quite as cheap as transferring away, but most of my names are at GD, so I prefer to keep everything in one place.

Hope this helps! :gl:

Note I have contacted Godaddy and made the point that if they were to increase their .COM prices 30-40% there would be a considerable migration to other registrars. Thus far it appears there is no replacement code allowing $25 renewals and the one which does seem to work only works if the order is pure .TV. I would suggest others with .TV domains at Godaddy complain so that it isn't just one customer raising the issue but many.

In my limited experience, the code above is activated and deactivated more frequently than you realize so while it may not work now it is likely to work in the future. GoDaddy does this from time to time to see how many people will take their domains elsewhere by taking away the savings that we rely on.

Trust me. It will likely be back in a few weeks if not sooner.

It's 29.99 no coupon for me right now.

If you're that concerned with the difference from 25 increase your selling price by $5

I spoke to Paul Nicks about the code, He said, So, this was a promo specific to an email campaign that has since been disabled. I understand that there are several .TV domainers that were still using the code so I'm asking our premier services team to update their pricing on renewals to match the old code. We need to go through a few hoops to get premier setup correctly, but I'll let you know as soon as that happens.
