Just a question...3L .com domains price range is more than 30k USD as a the premium in the secondary market.

Whereas 3L.co domains are not getting even half the price or maybe less why?

FYI, read somewhere about the renewal cost .co is double or maybe two and half times can be one of the reason, but honestly, I don't agree with that viewpoint has a difference of about 15 USD per yearly not much of an amount for any individual or company.

On the contrary it looks great and more suitable for any company to look on the face of it. For example, ABC. co is looking good compare to ABC.com, also .co is very easy to remember and type (no need to type one more letter) - This what I believe and hope it's right too...

One was around since the start and one used to be the country code for Colombia.

I appreciate your views and thoughts...

No offence, if new is better and good it should be more appealable IMO.

Of course, it's for country code for Columbia, but serve the purpose of company or any establishment too..

.CO will never be .com, thats why you can buy LLL.co for as low as $100 and the cheapest LLL.com is around 10K.

.COM has always be king and that wont change, having said that, I think .co has the most potential out of all the 2nd-tier extensions. It has multiple abbreviations like Community, Commerce, Communications, Computing, Corporation, Company, Colorado etc

New is not better in domains, tried and tested is whats better and thats been proven over the last 40 years of domains.

I think in the next 5 years you will see a steady growth with .CO names.

Simple. Because .CO is inferior to .COM, on every metric.

So far I gathered and understand, one thing is very sure that 3L domains are very popular, and if it is .com nothing like it.

1 to 3L Domains are natural resources, once used they are finished. (all most no one will sell 1 to 3L domains in case of who are using it).

Being very appealing and attractive 1 to 3L (1 and two are almost impossible to get maybe even in resell or secondary market), so people or companies are trying other TLD's.

We have the best example of the alphabet (Google Holding Co), due to the non-availability of abc.com, they have gone for abc.xyz. It indicates and shows the craze and importance of 3L domains, irrespective of extensions. It indicates the extensions certainly matters but not the only option. If Google can go for it there should not be any questions for others, as google is kind of authority in the internet world

Similarly, I am having one 3L .co domain, and want to book 3L .inc domain, it was very much available but was costing around 2,00,000 INR (about 2600 USD). I took my time to decide to buy, after checking again in maybe 15/20 days to my surprise that domain was gone (may be .inc was offering 50% discount) still it was around 1300 USD.

That means three-letter domains will be in demand IMO... particularly .co has a good future that is the assumption... let's hope for the best.

On sidetrack the 3L domains are selling here on NP around 100 USD can be an opportunity in coming 5-10 years. As nobody can predict anything...looking at these factors I assume the possibilities.

By the way nice to meet you and know your thoughts.

    Take Care!

The thing is that LLL .COM are valuable because it is easily the most popular extension in the word and there are only 17,576 total.

LLL in other extensions like NET/ORG have solid resale value as well.

When you start going through thousands of other extensions, LLL start to get a lot less special.

ABC.XYZ is kind of a one off registration. 3 letters that start the alphabet and 3 letters that end it.
It makes sense, though hardly anyone calls Google "Alphabet" or has any reason to visit that website.

This is just a defensive reg from Google, have a look at abc.xyz, its not being used for anything really. This has nothing to do with the value of LLL.xyz, you can buy those for $50-$100, waste of money, you cant sell them to end-users, 99% of companies have never heard for xyz. Most LLL.xyz are owned by domainers or the registrars. The extension will fade away like most of them do, you only have to look at the sales history to see that.

You seem to be overthinking all this. Just focus on .com and strong proven cctlds (.DE for instance) forget about all these new extensions if you want to make money

.com extension represents true identity for websites worldwide.
Many people outside the domaining circle may not even know about .co extension - few may think it is a typo for .com...

From my opinion - .co may face the same fate as soon to die extensions like .ws, .mobi etc.... :)

Rally happy to start this thread, as getting very vey useful, logical and practical feedback and comments.

I agree in total with your valid point about abc.xyz, may be having details only about as a holding company of Google. But in the circle of netizens it is well known fact and awareness that this Extention is using by Google.

As you all may aware.co is started making efforts by offering registration in discount.

Can be an exercise to make it popular...

You never know, if they offer it for renewal also...just a thought!

.co in my view, good for start-ups. The .com is the king, but still think .co has respect. Its quirky, especially if you're doing innovative things. My personal preference is with .org and .net as the replacement, than the .co...but again don't think this means it loses credibility

Majority of the views are against .co...

And few are with .co ...

looking at current scenario .co is certainly look weak, but you never know what is stored in future...

Yes, .com is king - but it is not top; in other words, .com is not top.

    Learn more here:

    .com is king
    https://www.namepros.com/threads/com-is-king.1229584/

That being said, I would say .co is a kingy alternative for those who can't get their wished domain in the king TLD if they prefer a 2 letter * ccTLD instead of a 3 letter * TLD which is top.

    * 3 letter TLDs look better (more stable) than 2 letter TLDs

Unfortunately, that logic doesnt work with domaining. .COM is king and top and will stay there. The registrations and sales history prove that 100 times over.

The fact that I am in domaining while claiming what I claim is the proof that this logic works.

Just because .com is the oldest TLD and having the most registrations / sales, doesn't make it itself top, it remains as what it is - the abbrevation .com a. k. a. king but that's it.

    .com will never be top.

Mmm, I respect your opinion. Case example: Ask a member of the public who knows nothing about the domain market, what would you rather have...I would suggest over 90% would say "I'll take the .com if given the choice". Most people would "prefer" it, if given that choice. By my definitions, if it doesn't make it "the king", it at least makes it the preferred choice in the eyes of the public

Sure, thats the case and I do not deny that.

My point is that most of even the domainers themselve think "king" means "top" so when they say ".com is king." they think it means ".com is top." but in fact .com is just what they say, it is king and (therefore) not top.

This is why I am not surprised that most people (would) prefer .com, they simply do not understand that .com is not top.

Why do you keep mentioning about "top" all the time. .COM is king and will remain there, nobody mentions "top" except you. It's the strongest extension 100 times over (thats what people mean by king) and that is what everyone is referring to. If an extension is the king of extensions, its the extension at the "top" of the pile, is that a better way to explain it. 🙄
