Hi,
I am confused about this co.ee. Some people tell me that it is not valid/official, some people tell me it is a good investment. Can these names be parked anywhere? Does anyone own a co.ee and have a positive experience to share? What are your opinions on co.ee? By the way, I see co.ee being sold on eurodns.com. Thank you in advance.

.co.ee is a private subdomain only. Now .co.ee is avaialble for registration at eurodns and according to them it's the only possibility for the moment to get an Estonian Domain name outside of Estonia, and the .co.ee is shorter as compared to the original .com.ee extension that is available next to .ee.

Thank you. Are both com.ee and co.ee official and recognized by Estonia? Do you think that they are good investments?

Both com.ee and co.ee are recognized by Estonia but they are potentially of no use to you if you are not from Estonia.

Cant they be parked anywhere or bought and re-sold? I mean .co.uk, .com.es, are potential investments for investors around the globe, so why not .co.ee or .com.ee? I dont mean to contradict you, I am just trying to understand why they only have value for local Estonians?

First .ee is not a major TLD... I doubt the value of .ee as an investment.
Also .co.ee is not official unlike .co.uk for example. It's a private subdomains. It operates like .uk.com or .gb.com (subdomains offered by Centralnic).

I am not even sure .co.ee would look good in Estonia, it's likely most people there know it's not the official thing (.ee).
Honestly I believe you will have a hard time selling that kind of names. Unless you want to use them for your own purpose.
If you are looking for an investment you are better off with .com .de .co.uk IMO

Ok, I see. Thanks. I will look more into the .com .de .co.uk like you suggest. It does make more sense.

Think of the money a British citizen might pay for a .co.uk domain. Now think of the money an Estonian citizen might pay for a .co.ee domain. See the difference?

.co.ee is worth nothing. No one in Estonia knows it even exists, there are no big and not even small sites using .co.ee domain. In Estonia we use .ee and .pri.ee, but only Estonians can get them.

I thought .co was for "Commonwealth" ... and I don't think Estonia is a Commonwealth nation. Is it? :)

No ,It is shortened version of commercial ,same as "com" . Nothing at all to do with "Commonwealth"
Example is .co.jp for Japan ,Japan is not part of the Commonwealth either

I agree with Hanz. In Estonia I know no sites that operate with co.ee or com.ee address-space. So they are basically worthless.

What I disagree with is that only estonians can get EE domains.

*.ee is available to companies in estonian business register, but the company can be 100% owned by foreigners.

*.ee domain registration rules can be found at: http://www.eenet.ee/EENet/ee-tldomreg.html

My humble opinion on the .co.ee extension

Hi all,

I am still very sceptical about this .co.ee extension. What I am understanding is that the reason why the .co.ee extension is worthless is because nobody is using it. Nevertheless, the .co.ee extension still exists. Therefore my logic tells me that an extensions' price is determined by it's demand. If this is true, then yes, it might not be worth anything because nobody is using it. The flip side to this story is that if someone were to buy e.g. hotel.co.ee, build a site on it, and publish it, he would have cornered the .co.ee market. He would be the only one out there with a .co.ee name! It would be impossible to forget the name or mix it out with another simply because he would be the only one. In my opinion, he would be worth just as much as someone who bought mygreathotelforuinamerica.com, (the approximate equivalent .com name) built the same site, and published it. In other words, i see a point where the overcrowding of the valuable .com extension is causing longer names and thus cheaper prices, whereas the not so valuable xx.xx or xxx.xx extensions are less crowded providing more valuavle names. Therefore, either name plus extension will end up in the same ball-park, price-wise. So to me, any good name followed by a not so valuable extension is worth just as much as the best .com name you can find, which will most likely be very long (unless you want to speculate on words that do not exist or 3, 4 or 5 random letter combinations). Anyway, this is just my humble opinion.

Is there nothing more to be added? Do we then conclude that the .co.ee extensions are worthless? If this is in fact the case, then how come is every "valuable" name or number bought? Is there a more experienced member who can explain this market to us in greater detail? I really believe that this topic is worth further debate...
