Please explain the Pool.com process

Could someone please explain the pool.com process of bidding on expiring names? Backordering names? I have over 20 names in my backorder list...it says "names in bold are deleting within 5 days" yet some are 10 days since the date it lists.

For example:

I have a backorder on a name

The name is in bold

Under "Added On" it lists: 2006.08.18

Under "Domain Status" it lists: Domain deletes on: 2006.08.15

So my understanding is the domain expired on August 15th, I had added it on August 18th. It's way past the 5 days, shouldn't I be in an auction for this? Or is there more time to wait? It says I am in no auctions.

Thanks for any help.

If you are the only one that backordered the name...You will win it..and pay the $60 min fee..If there are multiple backorders on the name....They will start an auction...so once the name has dropped...providing pool gets it...You will either have won the name...or click "my auctions" and begin bidding to win the name.

Ok thanks, but when does it drop? I thought that's what delete means?

That date it drops is what "deletes on" means at Pool. If domain is in Pool auction it gets removed from the "My Backorders" page and into the "My Auctions" page, automatically. IF it is still sitting in the "My Backorders" page list, AFTER the "deletes on" date, then one of the following happened (Pool does not auto-remove it from list as they should):

1) Domain was grabbed by someone else on the drop.
2) It was renewed before the drop by original registrant or registrar.

Pool has no way of determining which of the above happened. All their system knows is that they didn't grab the name. But, like I said, Pool's system doesn't remove names that they don't catch from the "My Backorders" section. You have to delete those yourself.

Sadly, since the "deletes on" date has already passed, and the domain is still on your "My Backorders" list, the name is already gone and not held by Pool. Better luck next time ;)

A good tip when backordering your domains is to register with more than one backordering service.

Whenever I use pool I ALWAYS add the domains I want to my list with Snapnames as well. It'll increase your chances of acquiring a domain or at least be entered for the auction if more than one user tries to backorder the domain :)

Awwww well thanks Max. That explains what's going on! I was looking forward to either winning a name or being in a backorder auction for the first time...maybe soon. :)

And I guess I should join snapnames eh Wizard and DP? I will soon. :)

Glad to help :) And, might I also recommend www.namewinner.com . I generally use, albeit they are not the only onces by far, Pool, SnapNames, and NameWinner for any domain I am after

It is also advisable to see what registrar the domain is currently regged with, prior to it dropping. Becuase of many "partner" relationships, whereby a drop service is more likely to end-up with a name regged at one of its parner-registrars, you can see which drop service is more than likely to catch the name (no guarantees..but more than likely) of any registrar listed at http://www.whois-search.com/deleting/who.php.

Maximum, do you have any luck backordering with Namewinner? I still use them but I can't say I've ever actually secured more than 3 domains with them in about 3 years. Always been Pool, Snapnames and eNom for successful backordering with me. But hey, doesn't hurt to list backorders with them all to increase chances...

good advice with looking up registrars of dropping names...

I don't backorder many domains at all....Domaining is a hobby I do in what little spare time I have, and nothing more than that. That said, out of the few I have ended-up with by using these services, one of the ones I thought worth holding on to (later the .com came up for sale on Sedo...considering making offer for it..lol) was nameservice.net . That one was had by NameWinner after an auction. Got it, after only one other bidder, for I believe $60. My overall grabs through them are minimal, but, like I said, I don't back-order much. My success rates from the 4 (NameWinner, Pool, SnapNames, Enom) are almost on-par with each other, except for NameWinner - Whom generally only gets domains from its partner registrars (the others have been known to grab domains away from the others, despite these "partner relationships").

The reason I am a fan of NameWinner, despite it not having the record of snatches the others do is pure numbers. IF by chance it ends-up with a good name, you generally end-up with fewer folks in the auction for it. And, unlike SnapNames, they don't seem to play unfair (there is much said in NP about what SnapNames may do to rig bidding, ect.). Pool, while having a nice record of snatches, has some very big players (members) who can make bidding wars seem insane (same happens on SnapNames). Enom - I have just never been a fan of theirs due to my personal (to each his or her own) opinion of their customer service, should issues happen.

Best advice, as others have mentioned...use them all, if the domain is that good or you want it that bad :)

Well, that'd definitely be an interesting site if you develop it! It sounds like it could be the next big controversial site...

Or the alternative is just a boring site of content about xenophobia :hehe:

Good luck Kerri!

Well, congradulations! For those that do not know, "xenophobia" is the unfounded fear and hatred of strange people or things (usually of foreigners). In this day and age (especially since 9-11), this is a hot topic, around the world (albeit, few folks know it by this word itself). Like JYM said, that domain could be put to some very good uses :imho: - Educate people about not only the word itself, but also about how such fears and hatreds do more harm to those suffering from xenophobia than it does the objects of their hatreds and fears (atleast most of the time) . I look forward to seeing the site one day, should you develop it :tu:

Thank you very much, I have it parked while I work on other things. Yes, I plan on making it an information site and maybe a forum for those people who have xenophobia. Thank you all for your thoughts. :)
