I use a unique algorithm for searching for expired .com's - I don't invest in anything but .com - why pay for anything else when thousands of aged .com's are expiring? Everyone has their reasons, but over the years I've managed to make a profit every month on expired .com's.

Thanks to trial and error I'm on a path where 85% of .com's I renew sell to end users.

I'm not greedy and target end users that pay from $100 to $2500 US. Majority of my sales are in the $250-$500 range.

It's crazy, but this happens all the time. I just saw a generic name of mine that went for $900 dropping within the year.

Congrats on the re-acquisition ... was the prior sale to an End user client who had development plans for the domain(s)? It's a little disheartening that for whatever reason they ended back in the expired drops within one year, IMHO. :gl:

All the best,
Jeff B-)

Yes, it does happen all the time.

I bought several dropped domains in the past, sometimes using Godaddy $1.00 coupons, checked the domains in DomainTools and saw that the previous owner was trying to sell the domain for $800, $1500, $4900... (they forgot to delete the name in sedo, etc) i even bought a dropped domain for $7 bucks that previous owner thought was worth $40,000. lol

Domain pricing is really a no man's land.

I target small businesses mainly and most of them develop or forward the domain to their website.

I enjoy searching trough expired domains, I'm dreaming of the day when I strike a big profit :)

It happens, true. I sold one for about $400-500 (can't recall the exact) and the buyer let it drop. I never bothered to pick it back up though.

$100 or so sounds fair and your previous clients may be happy to pay that. Maybe find out what happened to fully appreciate the situation?

No one pays me to spend hours on the internet searching for expired .com's and then investing and then waiting and then completing the transfer and then searching for end users!

End User could have a million reasons why he dropped the domains, not my business and not interested in reselling them for less then $500-$1000 for the pair.

I concur. It's your domain... both of them. I'd offer to sell them back but at whatever price YOU want.

It's pretty astonishing how little effort some clients make. You'd be surprised how many domains are tied to closed email accounts, resulting in folks being unable to receive the renewal notices. They never get a notice, they never mind the renewal.

How are you going to strike a big profit when you're only asking $250-$500 per domain?

There are better chances of selling 10 @ $250 each than 1 @ $2,500. As long as his domains didn't cost much to acquire, his profits should be well.

Wow, people are talking here as if it's normal!
I couldn't ever imagine just throwing away $500 for nothing in return!

Shockingly, it IS normal. It doesn't happen everyday but it's nothing rare, either.

it may be a lot of people (non-domainers) dont even contemplate re-selling/renewing their domains they've bought for development purposes that for whatever reason turn out to be surplus to their requirements. so they end up dropped. $500 to some people is bird feed.

Funny... the same people that haggle over a hundred dollars when buying will let their purchase drop at first renewal.

Maybe I should check some old domains I sold, might be interesting to see what happened to them....
