Yahoo seems to be the cheapest at the moment with 2.99 domain names and nothing else you have to buy. Does anyone else even come close at the moment? I know dotster just recently had a $1 domain offer that lasted for only 1 hour. But, how about any new domain promotions that you would like to share? Please don't post any that you have to buy something else in order to get the deal.

The Yahoo! price of 2.99 for a domain registration is limited to one per person, and they state that it is for your own personal or business use, and is non-transferable. I don't know whether they can actually prevent you from transferring the domain out of our name, but still it's limited to one.

And I've not heard good things about their customer service.

yahoo domains are not appealing to domain sellers alike but it will be a good start to get your starter domain :imho:

You need to be really careful with cheap domain registrars. You will have problems later if you chose the cheapest you can find.

I've heard of problems with Yahoo. Mostly transfer problems because Yahoo aren't doing the actual registering, it's some other company --- the name eludes me --- (EDIT: Melbourne IT).

<<recommendation removed>>

You're probably better off going somewhere a bit more expensive. The chances of problems later are extremely slim when you get a good recommendation and spend a few extra bucks whereas if you buy domains for $1 the chances of problems later are virtually guaranteed.

With the really cheap domain registrars (Yahoo, 1and1), you get exactly what you pay for.

I've used Yahoo with no problems and I appreciate a good deal when I come across one. Anyone know of another registrar offering registrations for under $4?

Just learned that ipowerweb is offering registrations for $2.95

but ipowerweb isn't that good in terms of service so if you think you can go without transferring your domains or without any service then it's probably fine.

You get what you pay for. If you are a domainer and you buy, sell, swap, and trde domains, you will find out soon enough that if you are using netfirms, Yahoo, 1and1 and others of that ilk, you will find it hard to actually sell, swap, trade the domains you reg with them.

This topic has been beaten to death in about 500,000,0000,000,0000,000 threads :td:

It's also wise to check the namepros Domain Comapny Reviews Section

This one has to be the lowest. Globat is selling .com's for $1.95 with nothing else that you have to buy. Anyone tried globat?

I believe registrars pay $6.25 per .com domain name. You cannot expect to get reliable service from a reseller or registrar who charges under that.

Use cheap registrars at your own risk.

Dotster is having another happy hour where you can register 2 domain names for $2 on Wednesday afternoon.

What about netfirms? They have $4.95 domains. Are they hard to work with?

My first domain was with NetFirms and the control panel was very easy to use. It's also worth the price. The only downside is it does not accept Paypal, which is my preferred method of payment.

Netfirms has auto-renewal set as default, you can't turn it off in the control panel. You need to email billing.

Actually you CAN Turn it off. Well at least, I selected the non-autorenewal option when registering my domains there.

Anyone trying to take advantage of Dotster's promotion right now? Is it just me or when you login do you not see any mention of the coupon?

I generally use the godaddy "loopholes", as Godaddy is my preferred registrar. I have tried Yahoo Domains, and I do not like the control panel. It's too simplistic.
