I recently bought a premium .tv, and while I'm organising a site I thught I'd throw up a site using channelme.tv.

Now the template and tools are ok, and easy to use for a non techy like me, but the only way to monetize your site, is through them (channelme.tv), and if you're outside of the US, even that option is unavailable.

So what's the point? Am I missing something?

LOL, I just did a search and saw previous comments on them!

Anyone know of a similar type of system that works and allows you to monetize however you want?

That's interesting rokoroko - how do you add the banners?

From another non techy I like using the channel me tools. As soon as the transfer from godaddy to enom is complete I intend to but up a beta site for medicalmalpractice .tv.

I do wish that they offered more templates and different headers.
One for legal domains would be nice.

It appears that Demand Media abandoned ChannelMe a few days after the website went online. I would not recommend it for domain monitization, and it pales in comparison to every other social networking site on the Internet.

Bottom line: don't waste you time.

Since you bought the domain to develop, and it will have zero traffic until you do, I would just forget about monitizing and put up a quick "coming soon" type page until you're ready to go live.

A great example can be found here: http://www.bruins.tv

Totally agree. Don't waste your time. Great idea, poor execution. And now Enom's abandonded it.

It does get a little traffic straight out of the box - only 8-14 a day but it was a nice suprise. I thought it was traffic looking for the plural (which is developed by someone else along different theme) so I put up a few videos that fit the name (it's a generic) and they are getting views.

Look interesting, but it's a rev share as your ads are only shown 50% of the time.

I would rather pay for a site or system and then have full control over monetization.

the videos itself you can monetize as well via revver.com

magnify.net has paid membership as well
choose either pro
http://magnify.net/options/pro/
or enterprise biz

One nice side effect is that if you get ranked well in their directory of top channelme sites, you get some page rank associated with your site. I've sold several year long links from those sites to other domainers/affiliate marketers as a way of mturning a profit against the annual reg fees.

Plus, I've seen many domains that later point elsewhere, but still have all of their 'friends' pointing to them, I think Demand Media is slow to clean up those links. Point is, that's one way to create a lot of inbound links.

You're definately not missing anything. When I 1st looked at the ChannelMe when it 1st came out, I didn't see anything special to it & still don't see anything good about it.
