Can teenagers make good developers?

Hey,

This discussion seemed to popup afew times around the 'net.
Just curious to what your views are on this...

To be honest, i think some teens' can, i started when i was about 13, and come along way.

People always commpliment me on my designs, coding, and ideas...

When the older developers respond to teens when they relaise they're young, and say "Wow".

I don't think they realise, teens can be just as good as adults, all it takes is commitment to learning and to communicate to others about your ideas.

Experience is also very important. Many teens (including myself) start off thinking they know everything about development and that their ideas are the best, but in the end it turns out that that's not the case.

Usually, after a couple years of experience, teens can be just as good, or even better than adults in many cases. I agree that it takes commitment and constant learning -- often times I find myself wandering to another "industry" and giving up on what I'm actually good at.

In short -- yes, if they're dedicated.

I think teens can be just as good. I worked with a 36 year old and I did all the maintience and upgrades and everything like that and he paid me some good cash money.

And yes, I think teens can do it only if they're dedicated as well.

Yes, we can be good at developing/coding.

My dad has a friend who is a webmaster for a company and he asks me how to do things over msn, lol

i get asked so often to re-do/improve code written by adults!
I feel possibly the thread should be 'can adults make good developers'

Teens, often have a fresh inspiration and imagination, bringing much more potential to the table, perfect ingredient.

I have not got too much into coding and design myself, i dabble, i have explored other routes.

But yes, i have found younger coders
Cheaper
Quicker
Easier to talk to
And in the most part just as professional and supportive (if not more!) than the older coders and designers.

So in answer, yes teens can make damn good developers (on a coding and design front)

Well, I like to think I make a good developer and I'm a teen, I'm sure people of any ages can make great developers as long as they go about it the right way, i.e, are Mature Enough.

Yep .
imho they can.

But, some can also be terrible, in that they're not mature enough yet (a little too young, i'm talking 10).

But from my experience they can be just as good if not better than older people. Experience also plays a huge part in making a good developer.
