Can I turn Wordpress into news site?

Can I turn WordPress into a digg-style site? News categories..and every user has the ability to submit news into specific categories, with voting capability? Or I better try a premade news style script? ~

If you'd like to make a digg-style script, you should try Pligg, perhaps.

I've tried Pligg before. To be honest, its very amateur and to get a unique look for your theme is very painful even with xhtml/css experience.

Anyway, maybe cause its still beta.

I think wordpress is good for this too, but you had to make all users like contributors. there are plugins to vote on posts
