question Can I sell a domain before the 60 days period ownership ends ?

I recently bought a domain, but it hasn't been 60 days since the purchase yet.

Is it possible to list and successfully sell the domain before the 60-day ownership period is over?

Depends on the registrar and how you intend to deliver the domain.

• Some registrars might allow a transfer out at 30 to 40 days.
• Others will make you wait the full 60 days.
• Some even require prior authorization from the registry before a transfer can happen after 60 days.

With the above in mind, many (Not all) will allow you to "Push" a domain to another account within the same registrar within 48 hours of registering the domain. In that instance, you just have to make sure the buyer has an account at the same registrar, so you can push it to their account and avoid the 60 day 3rd party transfer lock.

Be sure to research your registrar to make sure they allow account Pushes.

For example if I list a domain name for sale on Afternic and a buyer purchases it through GoDaddy in this case is it possible to transfer the domain ownership to them without waiting for the 60 days period to end? (since GoDaddy and Afternic are connected).

This following is from Afternic Transaction Assurance FAQ:

60-day Locks​

In the past, if a domain name was under a 60-day lock, our TA team was required to manually reach out to the buyer to ask whether they can accept an account transfer.

In the first iteration of our new TA system, our system automatically identifies domain names under a 60-day new registration lock. Our TA team will then reach out to the buyer to coordinate a push, if the buyer is willing to do so*.

As we continue to build the next steps of this TA system, this process will become more and more automated.

If the buyer has a Godaddy account (With Afternic being part of Godaddy), it would be safe to assume that Afternic + Godaddy would also recognize that and allow the domain to be Pushed from the sellers account to the Buyers account prior to the 60 day lock expiring.

I asked that question to Afternic after I registered several domains, and this was their answer (bold letters are theirs):

Our Transaction Assurance team can use the push method for domains that are locked; please note that can only be established by them at the time of the sale, therefore what we can advice at this time is to list the domains and in case of a sale, the Transaction Assurance team will further advice upon the transfer method.

60-Day Lock Detection: If the domain name you sell is under a 60-day new registration lock at your current registrar, our system adapts accordingly. We reach out to the buyer to set up a domain name push, if they’re happy to receive the domain name at its current registrar.
