My first name is currently a registered trademark of a major corporation. Can they stop me from registering my name .com?

For example, if my name was Louis Vuitton, could Louis Vuitton Inc stop me from registering louisvuitton.com or .net or .org, etc.?

in a short answer NO they cannot stop you, BUT your name must be verifiable that it is in fact your legal givin name to stop any potential actions.

And if its your first name or name and its available chances are it isnt an issue to them anyway seeing that they havent registered it themselves.

Now, if you register it and turn around and offer it to them for sale then you may have some muddy issues....

I'd venture that it would probably be impossible to register such a name since they'd all be taken. You'd be looking a buying the domain. Assuming the name is registered to a CyberSquatter, it is unlikely to be cheap.

If the domain is for your private use, and not taking any advantage from the name similarity (except traffic perhaps), I believe it is OK to acquire the domain. Even if you got sued, you'd definitely win it.
