question Can GoDaddy Closeout domain be in redemption period?

I picked up a domain from Godaddy Closeout for $11 on April 18 and 10 days later I received the following email from GD:

Error on registration. Your purchase could not be completed, therefore we will be refunding the cost of registration.
========

The domain is registered at Tucows and I know from experience that it was because the owner renewed the domain. However, I just checked Whois and the domain's Status is "redemptionPeriod". Is this possible?
