Hi, how much do Godaddy charge to get back an expired name I have with them? the domain is in Redemption Peroid and is the name dealrealtor.com. I have just been thinking that I could have done something with this domain but I guess it's too late now and I would have to pay large fees?

Well you can still renew it at Godaddy until the redemption period is over. The godaddy remption period is supposed to be 30 days, but they have been know to cut it as low as 15. I am unsure of what the renewal price is.

It will most likely be more expensive to acquire it through backordering or the like though.

Ohh.. And I would remove the name itself from this thread. No reason to invite competition..

Once a domain goes into the "redemption" period it will cost you $80 (Yes, EIGHTY DOLLARS) + regular renewal fee to get it back. Good luck!

It is nothing short of extortion! I think it's a disgrace they are able to charge people such inflated amounts. Not the best way to keep customers. You may see if they will waive the fee or even a partial amount as a one-time courtesy for you. -Regards

Once upon a time it cost more than 100 USD, just to register a .com...

Ah, the old days. The domain industry was extremely new and so much different back then compared to current times. It would have also cost thousands for a website on top of it all. Glad those days (prices) are gone.

Fortunately, the industry has evolved in most areas. Now they just need to get the redemption period fees under control. A good reminder for ev1 to stay on top of their renewals. -Regards

Yeah, its quite expensive to redeem a domain in its redemption period. If you read the bottom of the e-mails notifying you its like $210 to redeem a domain. Its just ridiculous / a scam.

Another option, which was suggested in a similar thread on here and should not be overlooked, is to contact GoDaddy Customer Service to ask them if you can get it for the closeout TDNAM auction price, plus the renewal rate. Tell them missing the renewal date and the auction phase were out of your control. It is definitely worth a try. Again, the GD Customer Service # is: 480-505-8877.

If that does not work, don't be afraid to call back and speak to another rep and ask again. Be persistent and have fortitude. You can judge a great deal by the tone and overall demeanor of the Customer Service Rep, as to whether or not you will get what you ask for. Use kindness and business tact.

If nothing else, you can always ask if they will at least reduce the fees, as was previously suggested. You might be surprised. Remember, they are in the business of making money, and as such, they would rather see the name go to a customer who is staying with them as the registrar, rather than risking someone registering it with the competition.

Just a thought. Best of luck.

-Regards

If the name is in redemption it's too late. $80 is 'cheap' for restoring a domain out of redemption, cause some registrars charge $200.
By the way, Realtor is TM.

$80 is nothing to gripe about, after all they do notify you around 10 times before it expired.

They could just let it go and you wouldn't have a shot at it for another what.. 75 days (reg drop)?

The reason there is a charge is because they are listed on TDNAM and could have bidders on the domains, or existing back orders on the domain.

Depends on the domain. If they like it, they notify you twice and do not adhere to the redemption rules. Worst I ever experienced there was Jeyh.com. Was away for 10 days, came back and saw the notice (7days after expiry). At that point they had already sold the domain to somebody else.

If you know what is good for you, you get a registrar that actually wants YOU as a customer..

Keep in mind that Verisign also wants a big slice out of the 80$ restore fee and as a registrar you need to fill out a form to restore a .com/.net (time consuming).

Restoring a .org is even more time consuming.
