I just participated in 2 auctions on eBay and won both of them. I have won a total of 10 domains 4LLLL.com and I have been watching the auction since it started last week. The auction finally ended yesterday. The auction was a lot of 5 4LLLL.com and I'm really happy I've won them. However, when I checked the whois for each of the 10 domains they have different registrar names and each owner live in different region of the world. I have bought domains here at Namepros before and never had any bad experience. This is the first time I've purchased domains on eBay because I wanted to take advantage of good prices. My question is, how can I find out that these domains are own by one individual and that they are not stolen from someone. Maybe I'm missing something here. I have the option to pay via paypal or escrow. I never used escrow before and if I did use escrow it will cost me extra $25. Then again using escrow will guarantee me to have those names. What do you guys think. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

If you pay through paypal, you have buyer protection, am I right? So, if they did scam you you will be eligible to receive all your money back by opening a dispute. You can provide evidence from the WHOIS to show its still registered under their name (unless it has protection) or try and get the seller to admit via PM that he scammed you then take a screenshot and paste that in your dispute.

If the seller is offering to do it through escrow, that means he's probably not going to scam you. If he said just paypal, I would be a bit more cautious.

Last word of advice, check his feedback. If he has a negative, PM the member who gave him a negative and ask him why. Good luck.

I do not think escrow guarantees the domains are not stolen, only that they are transfered before your payment is given to the seller.

Try doing a Google search for the domain including the extension - sometimes people post domains that are stolen in forums.

You might try emailing the people listed in the whois to see if either they sold the domains or they are working with the seller. Also the seller's feedback on ebay can give clues --- is he brand new? Not good if he is, but he may be OK. Is it an old account that just started being used again? Could be OK, but could be a hijacked account.
