There is no benefit to list brandable domains on marketplaces like: BrandBucket, BrandRoot, Namerific ...
You pay to list, they list only what they want and you send them all your type-in-traffic so if somebody visiting your domain decide no to buy yours he will see outher domains for sale at BrandBucket ... Good for them, bad for you. They sell, you donยดt ... They make money, you donยดt ...
9 months ago we had all our brandable domains listed at BrandBucket, BrandRoot and Namerific ...
One day we closed all our accounts on this marketplaces and set-up our own website: NicMarket.com
Now we sell 5 times more domains and we keep the entire amont (we where tired to pay 30% commission).
I see traffic to your website is extremely limited. It has alexa 1.5M . do you actually sell with such traffic?
Can you please give us some stats/comparisons?

Thanks in advance...

Well, if he was getting the average of 2-4% from the other platforms, that would imply sales of 10%-20%, which seem to be extreme.

Maybe, the increase also is due that now he can add the names that BB and others would not accept, so they have bigger inventory as well.

Probably both together: 1.5-3 times more of stock and 1.5-3 times better % of sales.

We sell more because now we manage what we list (not BrandBucket), because we negociate our domains, becuse we donยดt gift traffic to BrandBucket, because of cross selling, offers and discounts to recommended people, because we offer payment plans via ESCROW (not possible at BrandBucket) and promos on social-media & and we make a lot more money as we donยดt pay listing fees and 30% commission ...

Just to have an idea: when we had our brandables listed between BrandBucket, Namerific and BrandRoot we used to sell between 5 & 8 domains per year ... now we sell between 20 & 30 domains per year ...

I saw around 175 domains listed on nicmarket.com, selling around 25 average would mean about 14% and that is roughly 5 times over BB numbers.
Good job )
Question, if you are operating as a store, why do you need an escrow costs? Work as a store, charge recurring fee by credit card for the installments and pay only about 2-3% in credit card charges.

Using ESCROW we can offer payment plans up to 5 years, the best way to close sales ...
We proactively promote our domains and search end users. We own more than those 175 listed there ... many still waiting for logo and description ...

But you can do it via a credit card as well. I am sure you can set a recurring payment plan for any time period you wish.

We have many years working with ESCROW ...
the buyer pays the fees so we get 100% of the agreed price ...

When we had our domains listed at BrandBucket we where not motivated to search and contact end users (why ??? to pay 30% commission) now we are ... We are selling many domains that are not even listed on our website ...

It is up to you, of course. But you could just raise your price by another 5-6%, have buyer still pay the same price and just keep the difference.

Nice site and congratulations on your sales. How do you handle logo creation? That seems like a major hurdle for creating a site like this. The funds and or time necessary to produce quality stuff upfront must add up.

Measuring traffic with Alexa is like appraising domains with Estibot - I mean worthless.

Here is how Alexa ranks websites. Their ranking is counted by only those users, who installed an Alexa toolbar on their browser.

Here is a nice article to chew

Hope this helps :)

Thanks. The logo creation and descriptions are the biggest problems as it takes time to get the work done. We have an "in house" logo designer but we are not really focusing on quality of the logo design as our logo are just for presentation purposes, not included in the purchase. Our experience shows that most buyers opt to design their own logo ...

Many people (of the 173 pages on this thread) are stating a sell through rate of 10% of their names.
Those sales rates are the exception and not the rule. I have the 5th biggest BB portfolio, and based on sales rates I see I suspect the overall BB sales rate is somewhere between 2-4%. That doesn't mean you cant have a 10% sales rate, just that as portfolio size increases you can expect your sales rate to converge to the average overall sales rate.

I agree.. I have 500 names and the average sales rate annually is somewhere between 2-4% nothing more

I know that Alexa is worthless most of the time, but it was the only available metrics here. Recons gets 700-1000 unique visitors a day on a placeholder with no content so far.
