The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

They should really add a search function on their main page. It's not clear for less tech/mobile savvy users how to access the current menu imo. I think they went a bit overboard with the mobile first design.

Yeah, that's true. It would probably help to have some visible navigation besides at the bottom of the page.

I received an email from Brand Bucket called "Vote for domains, earn perks on Brand Bucket!" I am sure many of you received the same email also. I decided to see what it was all about and proceeded to waste about 15 minutes looking at some of the crappiest names I've ever seen. List below. Seems to be a smart way to get sellers on Brand Bucket to help do the work that Brand Bucket employees are supposed to be doing. It would be fun if they would at least weed out the crap before they ask for our help. What are your thoughts on this.

These are the names I was given and had to choose which name is better. There are a few that are ok but the majority totally suck!

I actually pulled a list of unregistered cloud domains together today and remembered seeing that for some reason. And yep, it's not even registered haha.

It's funny you said that. I remember when people were submitting unregistered names for approval and it seems like Brand Bucket doesn't care. Here are all the ones available to register from the ones I voted on. I have said it in the past and I'll say it again, It's absolutely bullshit that people should be able to submit names that aren't even registered. They need to fix their system because it's embarrassing for them.

I agree. I haven't even put any effort into brandbucket because of the wait times and then a listing fee. I still haven't heard anything back in several weeks from my first few domains.

In their defense, they may just really be so backed up that people have already had time to let their submissions expire and forgotten about them haha

They just accepted 9 domains... today

I think they were busy with their new updates

Looks like they will be selling names for a lower price as well. I had around 35 accepted today, with most being in the $1200 - $2200 range. The previous hundred or so that were accepted were mostly in the $3K - $5K range.

Got a couple of domains accepted today (after 2,5 months..) as well but as Stogi21 points out, with suggested listing prices that are about 30/40% less than before. If you look at recent added names on BB you can clearly see that this reduced pricing is the trend. Perhaps they're feeling the heat from other market places such as Brandroot.com and Namerific.com and think that by pricing their inventory more competitive they will stay the leading brandable domain market place in terms of sales? For me it probably means i will pass on listing these names with them because the revenue after 30% comms isn't that great (also because most of my submissions have cost me a couple of hundred $ to acquire as well).

Regarding the domain voting: Hot or Not for brandables? I tried it out because i was curious but it seems to me they want to make use of their sellers pool to help wade through many thousands of previously rejected (and in many cases crap) names to discover the diamonds in the rough that they've missed themselves? Sorry, i'll pass. I also bet that the domainers that do have time fo this aren't the ones that actually know what makes a good brandable. IMO they should be giving those with a good number of accepted and/or sold names priority when it comes to reviewing submissions etc, not those that have time to play Hot or Not for brandables ;)

Anyway, Brandroot.com came out with a similar update today so it's going to be interesting to see how this will develop over time.

I figure the voting is for names they have passed on, in case collective wisdom finds a gem for them. I made 50 votes and I wouldn't have wanted any for free.

I will say for the most part, I agree with their pricing of the domains that they accepted. I still think the sub $1700 names are solid, but in the past, they just would not have accepted them.

I also got 4 out of 6 names accepted today. All were hand-registered while drinking greek coffee about 1.5 month ago for less than $15 and so I decided to increase the listing price by 20%, with the average price being set at ~$1,600. Let's see what happens, as I haven't sold any of the 3 currently listed BB domains, but last month managed to sell 1 at Namerific that was rejected by BB, within 4 months of ownership (hand registered as well for $1.99) and 2 through Sedo that were rejected by both NR and BB (GoDaddy backorder fee).

Michael sums up nicely the process of choosing a brandable name here: http://mediaplow.com/choosing-brandable-domain/. I choose names that I would buy by using password generators, excel sorters for pending delete lists to catch suffixes and hot words according to my rules, bulk availability checker software, Namestation which is great and trademark search engines.

with NR I have about 30 - 35 names which have been the for most part listed for less than 2-3 months.. (Haven't sold any yet with them despite some really quality brandables... hoping there will some sold there soon!)

with BB I have 12 listed (1 sold in less than 4months). Just a couple of days ago, just got another about 45 names accepted! yes they're hand picked & catchy, but was still pleasantly surprised. Out of which there's about 8 or so they low-balled.. not sure if will post those ones or could counter offer with a bit higher listing prices..

with Brandroot, I have 12 names listed (1 sold in less than 2 months) a few more pending approval to see

hope this helps some people trying to have an idea..

Thanks for sharing pokainc. I have about 30 names with NR and 2 sold so far. With BB i have around 15 listed and sold 3. I have 8 names at Brandroot and a couple more pending, no sales as of yet but only started working with them very recently.

They just accepted most of my domains today, however their suggested listing price is a little too low for me. Plus you have to pay a listing fee, is this something new? I didn't know you had to pay a listing fee. Anyways, I think I am only going to select 1 or 2 to be listed primary cause I feel they are low balling all my domains.

Listing fee is not new, Margot has said to me it is the only way you can run a brandable boutique, at least in her opinion, she also believes exclusivity is a must.

It seems like Brand Bucket is trying whatever they can to increase sales. I think sales have dropped for them but only Margot knows that. Sites like Namerific, Brandroot and all the other small ones that have popped up are taking away many sales from BB. They changed their site to hopefully boost sales. They are going back through old unwanted inventory to see if they missed a gem. I have sold 4 on Namerific and only 1 on Brand Bucket. Brand Bucket's quality control has come down from a couple of years ago and I think it has affected sales.

Tomorrow will be exactly one year since this thread was started and a year ago everybody was talking brandable this and brandable that but in the past few months on this forum brandables have become cold. A year ago they had tons of names being offered to them but not anymore. They want to increase inventory but they don't have enough inventory being offered to them so they are going back through the rejects.

It's easy to keep your head above water when you can get 10 bucks a name and approve 20 or 30 a day to break even. It's simple math, approve 20 a day and you get $80,000 for the year to cover expenses. For all those that got into brandables a year ago and didn't sell any or very few are now 1 year later dropping those names and getting out of brandables because it didn't pan out. Brand Bucket should have taken care of the hand that feeds it which is us. Take 2 or 3 months to approve submissions, charge an ungodly commission of 30% and continue to blow people off and down goes the ship. The new brandable market will not have a 30% commission that's for sure. Things are going to change in this market.

I will say that I have only had the best of luck selling with BB. My take home and sales far exceeds the other sites.

These are also some pretty wide sweeping assumptions. You don't make website changes like they did without planning and forethought. They probably hadn't updated their site in 3 or 4 years, so yeah, it needed an update, and it needed to be responsive. I make a business out of redesigning and developing websites for successful business, in the hopes to increase sales. If you don't do that, you will lose sales.

Also, if they accepted 20 names a day, for a full-year, they would more than triple their current inventory which would seem a little out of place.

I'm not discounting your experience with BB, but if your sales numbers were flipped with them and Namerific, I don't know if you would be concerned with the other issues you bring up. If I were you, I would definitely be going to Namerific more because of past sales, just like I am doing with BB.

Keep in mind everyone, that the brands you get listed and the brands that you sell depend on the prices and the quality standards at each broker.

I try to list at BB first, then the others second. The others tend to accept those that BB rejected (but I only submit names that I think BB should love, I like to think mine are higher quality than 99% of submissions received).

Sold two at BB in the last few weeks, and one at BrandRoot.

Today is my one year anniversary signing up for BrandBucket, although I didn't buy my first "brandable" until a month later.
Overall, I am really pleased.

Just had my second sale close yesterday.

What I like about BB:
- they determine the price. Pricing brandables is subjective and I would just assume let someone do it. I also like the fact that I can change the price, up or down, by 20%. I wish Namerific and Brandroot would do this as well but to be fair, Namerific has suggested higher pricing for some of my listings so I appreciate that.
- 2 out of 6 names have sold but 2 names have only been live for less than a month. Happy with ratio of sold/listed
- They have eyeballs on their site. I think their marketing is working (it is for me) and hope it continues.

Concerns:
- It sounds like they have recently accepted a large number of names. I just had 3 out of 4 recent submissions accepted and it seems members here have had the same experience. I hope this doesn't affect sales by overcrowding the listing but at the same time it could bring even more views. Although I don't have high price names listed, I would be worried if I did because it seems there is going to be a lot of $2500 and under names listed.
- wait times. 8-10 weeks for acceptance. Hoping this improves.
- Logo price - (and this is for all the brand sites) I noticed that the company who purchased by first domain from BB is not using the logo displayed in my listing. I choose the $400 reward for that name and the company is not using it (yet). That makes me think that perhaps spending so much on logos is not necessary.

I don't mind the commission.
Sedo gets 20% for doing a lot less.

I have the same number of names listed at Namerific but have yet to get a sale so BrandBucket has been the better brandable site - up to this point for me. I have just signed up for Brandroot today and submitted a few names. I will see how that goes and perhaps try it with some future acquisitions.
