Anyway to validate this claim? FWIW: I personally see bb ads everywhere and often. I don't visit bb too often (maybe once or twice a month)

I tried using SpyFu.com (Keyword Research) and found the following chart:

    upload_2017-6-21_6-32-25.png

It appears your statement is accurate, "adsense budget hasn't grown proportionately to the number of domains added."

Below from SEMRush.com seems to match up with SpyFu.

    upload_2017-6-21_6-35-58.png

    ; upload_2017-6-21_6-50-42.png

Their Alexa Rank is also losing traction...
    upload_2017-6-21_6-37-38.png

On May 18th, 2016 @ownyx.com reported bb alexa ranking to be at 30,703. Today it's at 50,482.

Disclaimer: This is not my field of expertise. Expert opinions welcomed!

Analysing traffic is a useless exercise because a huge percentage of the traffic is generated by sellers. It is almost impossible to ascertain traffic that is generated by potential buyers.

According to this logic, the decline in bb's traffic analytics is a result of bb losing sellers / sellers spending less time on / viewing of bb? That makes sense given the decline in the reseller market + several top domainers leaving the platform due to transparency and performance issues.

I was trying to analyze the amount bb is spending on paid ads and whether it's proportionate with the number of domains added.

Here is a left field question.

Do you think BB has any plans to be listed on a stock exchange ie NASDAQ?

Does anybody know how many Facebook likes bb had a year or two ago? Today, they have 9,436 likes with 9,352 followers yet their last Facebook post is on January 24th, 2016 at NamesCon.

I'm just wondering how their social media growth has been. With over 9,000 followers, it seems their under utilizing a powerful free platform. I mean if they started sharing newly added domains on Facebook, followers could tag people (maybe previous buyers) they think might be interested in a certain domain.

I believed this was their strategy during their growth stage. To acquire as many domains and sellers as possible *just like any other silicon valley tech start up paying into customer acquisition in hopes of a greater IPO opening / private funding based on users.

BUT ever since the decline in marketplace and transparency, it seems more likely they will just milk the cash cow until it dries up. As their evaluation (based on performance, satisfaction, and users) is on a steady decline.

You will find BB is targeting startups by doing webinars etc...they are not necessarily wasting money on facebook ads and adwords.

Posting to Facebook is free. Unless they paid for likes, those 9000 followers are a valuable asset. I see their Facebook ads all the time, but like I said it's been since January since they've actually posted. Why don't you apply for a job as their social media person Justin?

@Grilled I think you bring up a good point on them not fully utilizing social media to their advantage. Twitter has been on the decline - while Facebook has continued to grow in it's exposure.

It is very simple to setup a feed where your twitter supplies posts to FaceBook or visa versa. So it would not take more than a few minutes - and no new staff - for them to utilize Facebook.

If they are to get a Social Media Manager - I hope they consider the weight that the position holds and hire/appoint someone who is very thoughtful and business minded.

    (edited for typo)

Keep in mind that namepros has been around a lot longer, and they only have 966 likes. Is there any other explanation brandbucket has so many FB likes?

Edit: there's a NamePros Group page on Facebook with 17,000+ members.

Here's my gripe about their new domains twitter feed (twitter.com/bb_domains)

55,400 tweets. 0 tweets with Photos.

Sellers spend $10 for a logo / $100-$500 when it sells. These logos are marketing tools, yet when the domain is promoted, the logo (aka brand packaging) is not included in their social media promotion. Who wants to share a photoless tweet with weird looking url shorteners?

Notice the difference on this bb retweet from one of their sellers vs bb_domains tweet.

    Sellers tweet (with logo) https://twitter.com/ValueDomainsUSA/status/771094516786991105

    Bb_domains tweet (without logo): https://twitter.com/BB_Domains/status/877323362422317056

**Notice the .ly domain promoted isn't hyperlinked, and not easily identifiable as a domain.**

Additionally, these tweets are going out to a following of 1500 when their main Twitter page has a supposed following of 17,600+ followers (less than 10% potential exposure)

All very valid points. Social media should be a main priority for any internet presence these days. Besides google and marketing - this is one of the biggest generators of traffic and exposure in today's Internet. But it is very easily forgotten by many in the daily grind of running a business.

**Added: Not only is it important to participate in Social Media for added exposure - but doing so in the correct way is also as important as the social activity itself - as you mention.

This was deduced from the fact that they have tripled the inventory while growing sales for around 50%. Since it makes sense to assume that there are two components to the sales a) visitors to the brand page directly + visitors to BB and searching there; b) search engines for branding keywords, BB's own effort to sell via social media, paid ads, webinars etc. While it is safe to assume that component A has grown proportionately or close to it (depending on quality of added names), you arrive at conclusion that Component B has not grown at all.

Which your research pretty much confirms.

Apparently last June (2016), I had quoted them having 9,000+ Facebook likes. Not much increase in a year. Something seems fishy...

Unsubstantiated theory: brandbucket paid for likes to increase perception that they are bigger / more liked than they really are.

Or they really worked on growing it and given up on it for months.

I have a website with 84000 likes on FB. It grows faster when I put effort into it and slower when I am busy.

    What type of website?

Certain websites / Facebook pages have easier barriers of entry to obtaining likes / followers. News sites and other sites that continually distribute niche content such as promotions or other need to know info. Whereas store fronts that don't produce content will find it harder to garner likes. (Unless they offer promotions for liking their Facebook)

A news website. Top news and certain categories automatically post to FB feed generating more shares/likes/visitors.

BB is harder niche but 9000 for a "leader" is a joke.

I figured it was a news site or something. Thanks for sharing.

To put BrandBucket in contrast with other marketplaces:

    Sedo.com has 9,751 likes.

BrandRoot has 8,680 likes. [I've heard whispers that they use aggressive (but effective) black hat seo strategies] They are more active on Facebook, but I wouldn't put it past them to have inflated likes in a similar fashion. Rader is a ninja.

    Namerific has 560 likes.

    Flippa has 33,284 likes.

    NameJet has 3,054 likes.

    AfterNic has 2,558.

    Catchy has 469 likes.

OK - turning the grill on low for the time being since bb staff appears to be back on NamePros...

Did BrandBucket sell Edamame.com for $135k?!

The domain now belongs to Trading-Point. (owners of XM.com)

    WHOIS updated July 20th, 2017.

DNBolt reported the facebook handle was available. I checked to confirm, and found this weird error by FB.

I just scanned the full 4L names on BB. They have like 500 names, I believe only 60 of these names should be in a brandables marketplace. Again, this started as the best ever marketplace a domainer can think to even belong to, and emerged into this.
They have lots of room to regain trust. Nothing is late, BUT the current attitude of throwing out a bunch of people to just defend the platform is just pathetic! I feel even bad for these nice people that dont know that they are just defending something that actually needs a drastic change. You guys are helping them to continue in a path that is doomed to fail. Sooner or later it will! I have no hard feelings against anyone. I just people are rational and not biased. One can love a platform, but cant defend as its a religion of his own :)

For all those muslims out there, Happy Feast :)

Good luck everyone, as always you will need it!
