I'm not trying to be mean to them. Everyone has an opinion, I know. But I can't look at their inventory without scratching my head at many/most of their domains. To each his own, and I wish them well. But their ideas of "quality" baffle me.

I did not ask about any one particular domain Randy.

Kryse is now live.

See what happens when the right button has been clicked?

:)

I really like the logo, too.

I won't post every domain that goes live, but I think it's important that I show that BrandBucket is fast and efficient -- and, apparently, forgiving.

Mea Culpa.

Out of the blue, I received an email. I'm posting it below (I don't think she'd mind):

Hi Randy,

I can't help but notice that you seem to have a big issue with us accepting pictaz.com. My hope is that if I give you some insight into why it is part of our marketplace, it will provide you some peace (and piece of mind).

The primary reason for its acceptance was because it is how the word "pictures" is pronounced by speakers of Hindi. A very large amount of our traffic is from India, and we don't have many names that appeal to them, so I have been researching pronunciation, preferred letters/spelling, etc. At the same time as being something appealing to them, it has a chance of also being purchased by someone more familiar with English, since names starting with "pic/pict" have been popular the past few years.

A quick Google search will show you that the owner of pictaz.com was not the first one to think of this spelling...it is found everywhere, many times in silly contexts like icanhascheezburger photos. Our goal is diversity, so if we can diversify the types of languages we appeal to, the variation of photo-related names we have, and have a spectrum of silly vs. serious names, a name like Pictaz is a win for us.

Regards,

Margot Bushnaq
<her email addy/phone # are both being removed>

Although I'm still skeptical about the domain, she had pretty convincing reasons for accepting it. Her emailing me an explanation truly earns my respect.

BrandBucket seems to be improving on their response time. I submitted a domain for listing yesterday and it went live in less than 12 hours.

After reading so many stories about logo design wait (sometimes taking two weeks) on this thread, I'm nothing but impressed.

The name is Pexet ($200 logo).

FYI,

All my BrandBucket domains are now live -- very fast.

What's the appeal of brandbucket?

I honestly don't get it. First they take a month to approve your domain. Then they want you to pay them 10 bucks to list it. Then they insist that you not list anywhere else. Then they want you to point your domain to their site so that you yourself will generate the leads that will sell your domain. Then, if the domain does get sold, they want a whopping 30% commission plus a minimum $100 fee for some crappy logo. Huh?

Why would anyone agree to these crazy terms? What am I missing?

Validation.
Though unbeknownst, subconsciously it's really more about - "I must have something good..they accepted my name!!'

Costs.., are just a byproduct of 'maybe'.

I see where you are coming from Kevin, although imo people should not look at it as validation, and on the flipside they should not think it did not get accepted so its bad.

I think its about track record, BrandBucket has been the most successful of the brandable boutique sites and people will give it a try.

It also means you are generating leads to the BB website as a whole, which means to other domain names, that may possibly be in competition with yours. Although brandables rely a lot ot on the 'crush' factor. So this may not be a huge problem.
I think it's a nice business model they have. No offense but it's not for me but this is not criticism either :imho:

We've submitted 10 names and so far 2 of them are good to go. Time will tell. I am somewhat mixed on the business model also, but as the saying goes "to each is own".

Yes, that's another thing that irks me. I have to generate traffic for them, and if that traffic results in the sale of another domain, my share of that sale is exactly 0.

Anyhow, the lesson I learned from dealing with them is that from now on I need to read the terms BEFORE giving anyone my money. Duh. lol

I read CrunchBase Daily to remind me of the brands that are being used by startups. Many I would never buy as a domain, but someone clearly thinks the name works. Examples from today:

Quri
Listia
Sefaira
Quantopian
Reesio
Algolia
Bruxie

Any refunds?

just curious if you were refunded the listing fee you paid for your domain? Or thats now BB's property.

No refund offered and none requested. I didn't read the terms before paying so it's my own fault.

The same way that your domain can generate a lead that will lead to the sale of another domain is the same way that the other over 1600 domains can generate a lead that will lead to the sale of your own domain. This is a case of everybody doing every other person a favor, including you.

You can fault the BrandBucket model on some other points but not on this one.

Yes, of course other people are bringing traffic that might generate a sale for me. That didn't escape my attention, however I have absolutely no problem criticizing BrandBucket on this point. BrandBucket doesn't exist in a vacuum. In the real world people get paid for traffic. If I point my domain to my sales page at GodDaddy, or Sedo, etc.., and a sale happens, I get a commission from them whether it's my domain that gets sold or someone else's. Why would I give BrandBucket the gift of my traffic when those other options exist?

I just can't figure out what these people are offering in return for their 30%, especially since they insist that I do them the favor of generating their traffic for them. It feels a little to me like paying a maid to come to my home so she can watch me do the cleaning.
