Let me speculate a bit here by saying I don't think BB will ever reach 30k listings. The number of new listings has slowed down significantly with sellers having to pay a listing fee and I predict many hand reg type portfolios will be trimmed significantly when renewal fees strike within the next 12 months.

I shall remind you of this quote when BB reaches 30K .....Heck, at the rate that @michaeljkrell is going he will have 10K names in his portfolio in about a year! (I assume he doesn't pay the $10 listing fee)

If he is doing what i am doing, which is only buy new names when names sell. This way he can grow his portfolio organically and if he pays his renewal fees 3-6 months out with each sale then he can keep growing his portfolio endlessly..

It was clearly sarcasm, not a prediction

You're probably correct because (Im also guessing) Mr Krell doesn't pay listing fees but he also has zero rejects-so no costs there either. That's not a knock but an observation. He took a shot with BB -in volume-and made it work. He took the risk so he should get the rewards. I think a few years ago you could do this with BB but not now-not with 20,000 names and counting.

That would be unfair advantage, but when BB stops working for everyone else except him, we can just move to another brand marketplace - their number is growing every year.

And that "other brand marketplace " would be?

Who knows - BB2, Namerific, Brandroot, Branddo, etc... They are kind of interconnected - then one is in decline, another will arise.

Every year? EVERY DAY...The number of new "Brandable" marketplaces is truly unbelievable.

It is PROBABLY a speculation, but this is how it will look like between me and someone who have 100% acceptance rate and $0 listing fee:

Number of domains: 100
Registration cost per domain: $10
Percent of domains sold: 3%
Average commission per sale: $1500

Code:
                           Me - Him
Acceptance rate (%) : 30 - 100
Listing fee ($) : 10 - 0

Investments : 1300 - 1000
Listed domains : 30 - 100
Profit : $50 - $3500

Newsletter out:

BrandBucket Seller's Newsletter - September 2015

Hi

With summer now officially over, I hope you were able to enjoy some time off over the last few months. It is always important to take time to recharge and spend some time with friends and family.

Increasing Sales
We are proud to say that our individual sales have increased by 250% year over year. The significant growth has been fueled by several factors including our continuing effort to reach out and spend marketing dollars on startup community. We are consistently creating long-term partnerships with VC firms and incubators that are turning to BrandBucket for their domain and naming needs multiple times a year.

August Sales
We had another very strong month of sales on the heels of one of our best sales months in July. Over the last 5 months, keyword sales have slowly increased and monthly sales are now pretty evenly split, but in August, keyword names definitely dominated the sales chart. This appears to be an outlier as our initial sales in September are a 50/50 split. This increase in keyword sales has closely mirrored our increase in keyword names being listed in the marketplace.

Top Searches
The top 15 stayed pretty much the same in August. Metro dropped out of the top searches with Luxury taking its spot at the bottom of the list.

Average Length of Time Before Sale
It isn't unusual for a name listed on the marketplace to sell within a week or even just a couple of days of going live. We have clients actively keeping track of the names we are adding to find the perfect name for their business. More commonly though, a name needs a little more time on our marketplace before it sells. From May - August of this year, the average time a name was on our marketplace before selling is just over 6.5 months.

Lastly, premium 4L continue to produce very strong sales, especially those in a CVCV format. If you have any in your inventory, please send them over and we will be happy to review them.

Happy domaining!

Michael Krell

@michaeljkrell Is this seller's newsletter supposed to be going out to all sellers? I have yet to receive it and it is not in my Junk box.

In my Gmail, I found it under the "Promotions" label.

Dominic-any sales yet? You have some great names there at BB-Thanks.

No sales. The day I sell a name, I'll tell the world :)
But my portfolio is now down to 43 names from 63.

Just made my second sale on brand bucket

I joined bb 1 year ago, I have 35 names listed sold 2

Aftia dot com sold in December 2014

Sold today BuildGrowth dot com

Only two sales in 12 months, suppose it's not bad considering my names are competing with over 20k names now.

I will continue to list with bb but only names listed for more than $2000, due to the $10 listing fee.

My thoughts exactly-if they're not over $2500 to $3000 it's not worth it.

I suppose I have mixed views on this. A domain that is listed for $1700 on brand bucket that was a hand reg is unlikely to fetch you even a couple hundred bucks elsewhere. I've decided that the $2000 mark is just the figure I feel justifies the $10 listing fee and renewals for a few years if need be.
