Brandbucket Challenges Dnbolt For Reporting Sales Data

Hi guys today I made a final decision to join namepros. I don’t normally participate in forums discussions etc. I have BIG concern that I want to share with you and get your opinions.

Little bit about myself: l am a student, I recently developed interest in data, I am a part time domain investor, I spend most of my time creating unbeatable algorithms and finally as you may know I publish BB sales at dnbolt

About a year I started developing interests in brandabale domain. I needed to get some insight about sold domains from brandbucket but quickly learnt brandbucket doesn’t publish them. But fortunately enough we all know that in the domain name world most data is obtainable, right?

To keep things short, I have been getting emails from brandbucket asking me if I can prevent making the data crawlable by search engine technically asking me to make the content available to just myself.
Months later I got a forwarded email asking if I can obfuscate the sold domains I have listed to prevent google indexing the content. But to be honest if google index my content on search how is that my problem?
Surprisingly they have even gone the extent of contacting my hosting provider. I was a little bit upset that they contacted my hosting as I was only being helpful providing data to those who needed it and instead of getting a pat on the back for my hard work, I got accused and an invisible spanking.

My question to you is.

1. How can a marketplace try to claim ownership or exclusive rights to a domain that has been SOLD and no longer listed on the site for sale?
2. How can a SOLD DOMAIN still belong to the previous marketplace in any way, shape or or form?
3. Why can’t they be happy that I am helping them to publish sales data for free?
4. Does BB have any right to challenge Dnbolt for the kind service he renders?
5. Do I have to listen to BB and stop proving sales data to the public?

I would like to hear your thoughts thanks.

All I am saying is that we did not contact your hosting provider.

Well someone contacted my hosting in the name of "Brandbucket" so Brandbucket is 100% responsbible and cannot deny the fact.

If it were me, I would take this post down, though probably already indexed, and ignore it all until a letter shows up from an attorney. Then, depending on the merits of their accusations I would determine what my next step is. I doubt you will ever get such a letter.

Why should this post be taken down? To succeed in life we must plan ahead. I am asking for advice from fellow domainers. Letter from an attorney? I would love to get a letter from an attorney.

Everything you say, can and will be manipulated, turned and used against you in a court of law, why give them anything. Your comments will be picked apart and thrown back at you out of context. Its a sad state of affairs, but in today's world what seems like an innocent post can come back to harm you. IMO of course.

My opinion is that Domain names sold on public marketplaces is PUBLIC INFORMATION.

All other domain marketplaces have public sales reports like Afternic, Godaddy, Sedo, DomainNameSales, etc. No one else pitches a fit.

Only Sedo and Flippa report sales data these days. GoDaddy and Afternic havent reported any sales data for over a year and the last time DNS reported sales data was in Q1 last year.

If the actual sales price is private, and DNBolt is publishing the Listed Price under the impression of the final sales price; then I would go on to say it is borderline unethical.

However, if DNBolt is publishing the actual publicly known, final sales price then I don't see an issue with that.

Hey Jack, I contacted your hosting provider. I do not work for BrandBucket.

1. I do not appreciate my personal information being passed around the internet.
2. It is MY business if I sold a domain and what price I sold it for, not yours nor anyone elses.
3. There are people (more than one) that you have taken it upon yourself to provide my email address, and details of my sales to, that think it's OK to contact me... they expect free tutoring/advice. It's not OK.
4. BB clearly state on their website that the DO NOT ALLOW details of their sales to be shared: Information on any domain name sold at BrandBucket, including the name, price and/or logo design may not be listed on your personal website or other marketplace without BrandBucket's approval. BrandBucket retains the right to be the sole publisher of sales information in order to comply with customers' needs to make this information private at any time.
5. BB have obviously contacted you direct as they feel the information you are providing could have a negative impact on sellers/customers. I do not appreciate you doing anything that could have a negative impact on my sales.
6. In THIS thread Michael has further stated that this could have a negative impact on sellers/customers. I do not appreciate you doing anything that could have a negative impact on my sales.
Hi @Dnbolt All we have asked is that you obfuscate the names and not allow the site to be indexed in order to keep the sale confidential for our customers. The indexing of these sales can have a negative impact on our sellers if our customers see their names listed. are not pleased, and shy away from making future purchases.
.
I do not appreciate you doing anything that could have a negative impact on my sales. Remove my domains, my name, my email address and everything else that I may be associated from both your website and the lists provided to your 'clients'.

Thanks

So what's your best advice to me?
From a legal standpoint they have zero argument. It sounds like these are T-ballers tying to speed ball with brass knuckles.

Obviously lower prices are going to be negotiated and if that company contacted your hosting then they have grossly overstepped their boundaries.

I understand that you may want to be friends with them and their site but if they don't own the domain name then they have no argument, prior or after the sale.

Why not buy privacy for your domain? If your domain is for sale on a public market with a public price tag then wouldn't anyone assume you got within the ballpark of your asking price?

If you want your name and details not spread across the internet like bad porn then be a super hero and take care of your own business and not make other people suffer under the guise that it's invading your privacy which you've neglected.

I want to give my potential purchasers every opportunity to be able to contact me. That includes having my details in whois.

I do not expect someone to come along and amalgamate my personal details with my domain name sales and prices and hand that out to their 'clients' - particularly when my sales where made on a platform that specifically states Information on any domain name sold at BrandBucket, including the name, price and/or logo design may not be listed on your personal website or other marketplace without BrandBucket's approval.

@golan

1. what if I made an option to allow domainers have thier domains removed?
2. Yes please let me have a look at that script, it could be helpful if I decided to use that approach.
3. Thanks for sharing your link, now I know where to buy seo domains at good cost :)

Kinda like when you buy a house and make Google blur the Streetview out right?

If someone really wants to erase the roads which led them to where they ended up then they'll find you and be decent about it.

There's no such thing as a Public Domain Marketplace, they are all owned by private companies who can set policies as they please. My prediction is we will see less transparency in pricing in the future, not more.

Edit: I guess the closest thing to a Public Domain Marketplace is when names drop.

Well, the lesser of two evils, which I use personally, is to use an email which has no personal ties to you and also an address which has nothing to do with your own personal accounts so you're not a target for hacking.

Next, any data which freely and openly appears on the internet cannot be controlled by you even if it is you, for the sake of domain registrations. Public registrations, administrations and many other business registrations are openly available.

It's profoundly unreasonable to expect a news reporting media site to refrain from using your data if you've chosen to make it available.
