What would you guys say are "Failed domain extensions" -- meaning they just probably will never be used and stay away from them ----

Also, I notice when I search google.... .biz & .info websites never come up.... and .net's hardly come up

I dont think .info or .net as failures at all. Many people are developing them. and search engines dont descriminate on TLD

Even .biz has more than 1.8 million domains registered.

All 3 mentioned extensions have more than double the number of registered domains than 5 years ago.(>15% average growth per year) Not sure what you mean by failed.

.biz, .info not fail extension.....
Example
Travel.info
2007
$116,000

.biz more suitable for business
.info more suitable for information
Good for search engine..............

None of the above mentioned are failures. I would say the only real failure has been .name

.info's come up in many search's, of course you won't see them if they are competing against very strong established dot coms with huge seo budgets behind them or many years of been established, what terms & engine are you using? .biz and especially .info's are in no way a failed tld's, if one failed one comes to mind it would be .NAME

I would say none are really failures as a whole but I would not recommend .name for sure. I have never seen a .name website or even accidentally came across one. It's really a silly extension.

.info has just past 5,000,000 registrations http://gpmgroup.info/2007/10/10/info-domain-registrations-pass-5000000/

In many countries .info is the 2nd largest gTLD (after .com) In a few countries .info is the largest gTLD LOL
World Map http://www.chart.info/world-map-info-04-2007.htm (April 2007)

.info . net .org & .biz compared in Eastern Europe
http://www.chart.info/stats18.htm (January 2007)

Pages indexed by Google is probably a better indication of useage as opposed to speculation
http://www.chart.info/stats17.htm (November 2006 - need a newer one but still good to visualise the scale of different TLDs

Great link gpm - that shows a lot. Your company does very nice work - impressive! (I don't think # of registrations means anything though bc/ .info were so cheap that many of us registered more than we would have otherwise.)

IMO, at least from an end user perspective, .info could be used by a prominent company to give info about a product (I have some specific insurance products in .info that have sparked some bids)

.biz is just not going to be used by a company looking to be known - if anything they might choose their cc tld. Or they'll find a way to get the .com.

In general

None of them are failures, just not as successful as .com (or .mobi come to that :hehe: )

I personally love .info
I heard it means the same thing (info) in 37 languages too. (not countries, languages!!!)

It has a bright future after a slow start imo

.biz is not so great tbh, it gets the odd largish sale, but really if any are failed i would say .biz

things like .cc, .ws, .name etc. are just trash & were never gonna be anything imho
never regged one

.info found its way and has been successful
.biz is hardly successful, it's always been loathed and it's not going to change.

I agree with most posts, but .BIZ is not a failure.
You just need to know how to approach its end users.
Lets face it, its not a domainers market for .biz
However, it is still a gTLD (and +50 cents as of October the 14th)...
If a small to medium business wants a keyword that describes what they do, and the .com is gone (for whatever reason, from being used, to being wayyyyy to expensibe), .biz is a viable alternative.
Is it ideal?
No.
Does it do the job and get it done in SEOs, while still being a GLOBAL TLD?
Yes.
None of the above have failed.
in fact, many ccTLDs that were marketed as other than their original country code purposes (.ws, .cc...etc...etc...) are the ones that might be looking at being granted a 'failure' certificate.

.info? Not used as often as .com or .org, but it has a growing presence among developed sites. Several months ago I was working on a campaign for a major pharmaceutical company which was using a .info for a patient information site for the medical condition addressed by one of their products.

.biz? Not popular with domainers, but its gaining acceptance, maybe more so outside the USA. I recently had a very nice end user .biz sale (UK) and I'm fairly certain they plan to brand a new site on that name.

OTOH, .name doesn't seem to have caught on with end users OR domainers...

Can you be a little more melodramatic?

.info is far far away from being a failure. In fact, it is currently the next best thing after .net (and of course, .com).

.biz, I'll agree, has no redeeming qualities about it

.biz - yes-basically a failed extension, hasn't lived up to expectations at all. Probably associated more strongly with spam than anything else.

.info - has done quite a bit better, it hasn't exactly set the world on fire though I wouldn't have regarded it as "failed".

I haven't seen one problem with .info - although it's cheapness to register may have worked against it early on as it got a reputation as a haven for quickly setup spam sites. I have many developed .info domains and some even rank very high in search engines.

.biz on the other hand, while I don't think it is a failure, I also don't like it.

I don't thinks,a few .info sold for $xx,xxx and even $xxx,xxx.
.biz is a not bad choice for biz IMO
