discuss Biggest mistake you have made in domaining?

Please share the biggest mistake you have made since you started domaining?

- I wish I had joined and participated in a domain forum when I started domaining. I was so excited about the possibilities of making a big sale. I thought this couldn't be so hard-I got this. So I took to ebay and then other sale platforms. I asked for unrealistic prices and so on. But you don't grow in those environments, atleast not until I bought alot of crappy names and lost money. I didn't have a real plan other than buying and buying and buying and hoping to hit the lottery. I made some good acquisitions in the process, but if I was on a forum like this and posted one of those domains for appraisal I would have made much more sound decisions, saved money and probably been much farther ahead. I'm still moving forward but I thought those topic may help somebody new and even pros and make us all better and sound at domaining.

Is "not knowing the future" a mistake? I think we are all guilty of that
Like not buying 5N or LLLL Chips.
Also selling too soon...

But it's not something I can predict so no point of obsessing over it... too much

I'm a former Realtor in 2007 talking about "Business chances" with one of my clients (businessman) he asked me: "What do you think about Domain names?"

My answer couldnt resonate like I didnt have Idea of the Real Potencialities of the Industry...
So i replied in the easiest way I could in that moment..

"I guess its too late....Best names are long gone"

Yeah, I hear that alot. Then I also see people climbing to the top of the industry withing a year after domaining. It all about having a plan.

Yeah no need for guilt, just sharing.
It's all about speculation.llll.com's have always been solid investments. I wish i had bought more and the few I bought i sold for up to $200. Some of those are now worth 4 figures. But I'll succeed regardless.

Back in 2001/2002 (and possibly a little later) when Snapnames held only one unique $49 backorder per domain I felt I had spent enough on backorders and would often remove a backorder from one domain and switch it to another that looked more likely to drop...should have kept those in place and purchased more as some of the removed backorder slots that were taken up by others who would go on to win some great generics lol.

Back in 2001/2002 (and possibly a little later) when Snapnames held only one unique $49 backorder per domain I felt I had spent enough on backorders and would often remove a backorder from one domain and switch it to another that looked more likely to drop...should have kept those in place and purchased more as some of the removed backorder slots that were taken up by others who would go on to win some great generics lol.

Reading an article in the new scientist magazine in 1995 about Tim Burners-Lee and the new internet thing and domain names and then having an idea about geo .com's being a great idea for a shop front.

I thought about names like NewYork.com, London.com, etc but wasn't sure where to get them or how.

I was into programming in the 80's so had an idea what this internet thingy was all about.

The other bad move was investing in .mobi back in 2006 (I paid over $8,000 for 1 name pfft!!)

I did have a flirt with domains in 2001 as i was looking for a suitable ,com
