Better to park or keep old content?

Hello,

New here and have a question about current practices for selling domains. If you have a domain that's been around for a while, and it's time to sell, is it better to park the domain or keep the old content on there? (At least one of the sites in question is fairly high traffic but the content itself is still old and not updated.)

I've seen some people put up advertisements or use Adsense to try and monetize the domain before its sold. And I suppose you could also pull the entire site down, but I'm not sure if that would benefit anything...

I experimented a bit with buying domains back almost 20 years ago, and I held on without selling but now it's time to move on. Since the domains I'm selling don't really have active, current sites on them I'm trying to determine the best way to present them for sale.

If you bought them 20 years ago, they are possibly quite good domains. If the content is really old also, I'd guess your domains don't rank well in Google. Probably the best way to sell them would be have a landing page stating they are for sale. Me personally, I'd park them with a for sale link on the parking page, to grab whatever benefit these domain have in parking. If they don't generate any parking revenue, then I'd put up the for sale landing page. There are other options which partly depend on your rush (or not) to sell. If you PM me your domains, I will try to give you advice on a domain-by-domain basis.

You would usually get more for a full website, even if it is low quality/outdated. If you put a few hours in and get a small amount of earnings it could really make a difference.

The better approach is to “park” your domain by yourself. Set up a very simple page, or better a few pages with some text that is original and contextually relevant to the domain name itself. You can even place some Google Adsense Advertisements on the site to earn a few dollars a month.
