I started investing in domain names about three months ago and I am noticing that although I have purchased domain names, I am nowhere knowledgeable about the ins and outs of it. If any of you can help me in the best direction (not asking for handouts) but just where is a good start. Replies would be greatly appreciated!

Read. Read a lot. Follow the right people. Keep your expectations low, be realistic. Follow various reputable domainers on here to get a taste of whats happening in a variety of niches. Don't be afraid to ask, don't be afraid to fail. Watch the daily sales.... Most important, don't spend money just yet... Don't rush yourself into it but prepare yourself for success!

People that show up to forums to ask what has been asked many times are usually people that will never succeed in life. If you cannot do the easy work of searching and reading, you are not prepared for the real hard work of making it in this or any business. Good luck.

Spend lots of money on dot whatever and make as much mistakes as possible---that the best way to learn

There is no such thing as failures-they are only "delays"
one day when you wake up, you will find success.

Use the search tool and read, read, read.

And something that is not often mentioned:
Don't come here expecting to sell your domains to other members for a good return.

Read, read and read some more, till you master the art of reading between the lines. Bits of the domain puzzle should start falling nicely into place once you are ready. Build from there. Good luck!

The advice is to spend money to make money-good for the economy
go big or go home
buy all the junks and make all the mistakes you want -this way you will learn the hard way.

Read. Ask questions and connect with people who don't think they are too big to help you get further in the industry. Stay away from negative " gurus", and take your time.

Understand that you are going to make mistakes. You are going to lose money. Start small, Invest low, but invest in quality even if you have to hand register them yourself, and make them worth something.

Most importantly, be patient.

This question is commonly asked, people have given good answers already without my opinion. Learning from the experienced, and engaging...good start. Get a feel for what sells yourself, discover niches. The capital in the first place is a must, but renewals on securing names aren't too cost extensive. If you're looking to be a broker, pretty saturated. Making deals happen on "big names" as a beginner, in my opinion, a waste of your time (for the most part). Big names attract big players, who are better placed to handle it. Being a trader, securing your little garden patch / own niche of names, making the odd respectable sale...reasonable. Not suggesting you can't do the big league, just "harder" to penetrate as better placed people. Hope this is a fair perspective

Sell cars, real estate, retail learn how to burn other peoples opportunities first. I am great at burning have had to wind back trying to close early but the idea is to make a sale, make a profit, create turn over but i still quckly qualify low balls as been trained that way but i may have to adapt as seems to be the modern approach and offer more responsive replies.
I am still one to enforce no name no service. Can't sell to anyone anon so don't bother starting negotiations with anyone that won't identify themselves. All the opportunities are for buyers are to test what price "John" can negotiate a name to and vanish before next "Guy aka John" begins to negotiate again. Read this forum learn the tricks they are all just spread out over the discussions.
