Best way to get members?

I just opened up my sweet new forum Xtreme iTalk and it's feeling very naked. I've been administrating forums for over five years now and I can't get members to my forum the way I did when I was 12... spam forums and pm random people to join. Yeah it worked but it made me look like a big jerk. I don't have NP$ to spend on people to post and join but if I did... I wouldn't. They aren't sincere members. I'm not TRYING to get posts. I'm trying to get a community up and running.

What do you guys think?

P.S. do you like the skin?

Hey,

first of all i think the name might give you a disadvantage its not exactly memorable and doesnt spell like it sounds. But i think if you want members i suggest you get some people to post first maybe some friends just to get people started talking as no one will join a forum with no posts. Then i suggest link exchanges with gaming sites or have gaming sites sponsor each section of the forum (e.g. music site to sponsor music part like www.freewebspace.net/forums/ does). Then once you have visitors coming in you should get much more members.

And yes the skin is nice, extremepixels work is great. However its nearly impossible to see XtremeItalk above the menu. Edit the top banner.

I would recommend advertising it in your sigs. Put them in all your sigs throughout all the forums you join. Pass on the word and get people interested in chat rooms, not by forcing, but by explaining.

Firstly setup a few individual sections. As the activity increases, add more sections and move the existing posts for those specific topic into the new respective boards. This way there will never be empty forums. Offer different categories and topics which people generally won't find in other forums. Try to post unique content so that people will visit your site and give reviews or feedback through your forum.

A little advertising on specific sites ? Sites that serve your interest and/or maybe announcements on forums ?

BEst way to get members...is find site which has lot of members and thr put it in ur sign... tht d only way to get members i feel... and other way i join any yahoo group related to ur site...and send ur site link....

and d skin looks cool....but too old

Why would you make a forum in the first place if there's no demand? You don't make forums just to build a random community and get members. There needs to be a good reason for people to sign up and I don't see one.

well the best way to make ur forums popular is by posting usefull stuff on it and then advertising it..
have something that is not offered anywhere else...or first of all post usefull stuff that people would want to comment on..and tell your friends to post...have as many link exchanges as possible...
your forums r pretty empty, you should fill them up by urself first..so when some1 visits the site they dont see an empty forum n just leave because there is nothing to do there...
make threads that will start a discussion..

Start a lot of topics yourself, so people will have some base topics to reply to and to discuss. People in general wouldn't want to join an empty forum.

as Momo said, start your own topics, and also get lots and lots of advertising, do the pay for click with np. This will get people to see your forum.
