Best way to aquire expired GoDaddy domain

I have been watching this one domain for a while. The domain isnt very valuable to most people but to me it is. If someone posted it here for an appraisal I am sure everyone would say regfee. I initially thought of making an offer at sedo for the domain but for some reason I felt the owner might not renew so I decided to wait until expiry and see if they renewed. Well after months of waiting, the domain expired on April 30th and hasnt been renewed as yet. Now supposing the owner doesnt renew what will be the best way I can go about acquiring the domain? I am thinking putting in a backorder at GD and that would mean I get the domain if no one bids on it at TDNAM befor it goes to closeout? Does anyone think I should bid at TDNAM for it instead? I am trying to not draw attention to the domain as I am sure it will slip under the radar if I dont draw attention to it by bidding. Any advice is greatly appreciated:)

I would wait until the domain name is in the last few moments at auction and place a bid. Dont let it go to $5 BIN because you may not be the only one watching and then its all about speed (Ive lost a few of those).

I agree with the advice above, but put the bid in at about 2.5 minutes before close to maximize your chances of slipping through undetected. The auction automatically adds 2m30sec when last minute bids are made.

Then keep an eye on it until it closes to be sure you're not outbid.

I let some domains slip into the $5 BIN, but only if I can stand losing them. You only save $5, and that's small insurance to be sure you get a name you really want.

And never, ever backorder on Godaddy. You'll likely never see your domain or the money (nonrefundable) again.

I disagree, every system has its flaws, but I've nabbed some prime generic domains through GD backorders without any issues.

Yep waiting till the end of auction and quick place a bid is right.

Thanks guys, I guess thats what I will do. How long after expiry does it take till it appears at TDNAM?

I don't recall for sure, but about 25 days after expiry. To be safe check from 21 to 30 days.

Using Godaddy backorder, I got the credit back when a domain I wanted was re-newed by the owner. But then lost the credit after a year.

If it's already in redemption you can't backorder it at GoDaddy. It'd be best to backorder it at SnapNames/NamJet/Pool. When as the expiry date?

I think try checking the domain after 20 days of expiry.
I got one expired domain on the 28th day after expiry (not sure)

Good luck

I agree 100% with Spade. Lost a few myself because I wanted to save silly a few bucks.

Cheers guys, got the domain this morning. I bid about 4 hours before the end cause I went to bed as the auction ended 4:40am local time but no one else bid so got it for $10 + renewal. Now just have to wait a week to get it and hope the unlikely event of a redemption occurs.
