Best route to great SEO?

Hi all.

I have a nice LLL acronym domain that I want to develop. A WP minisite is on the way (live tomorrow) with adsense ads on and some nice articles. I want to get it on the first page of google in a competitive market.

What would you recommend I do now in order to get the right SEO for it?

Good content will drive traffic and links to the pages. Google loves links from authority sites and traffic on sites. My recommendation is to focus on great content and branding the site.

I never used an SEO expert. I think those who really know what they are doing are very expensive so the cost benefit wasn't worth it for me. If I was you, I would first do the basic stuff (there is plenty that you can do on your own) and then see where you are at.

It will take a while for Google to recognize your site anyway so I think it pays to conserve your money and be patient to see what type of traction you can get. If you concentrate on your content and then involve yourself in relevant forums you can probably get a good idea of how far you can go with your site idea.

Yes, it would make sense to wait and see. I will take your advice and concentrate on the content. I can always monitor progress. I'll also use your blog post that you kindly sent me a link for.

So, it seems that good content, regularly added to will move it up the rankings.

Good content goes a long way. I have pages that looked like they were coded up in the mid-1990s, for which I have never done serious promotion or linkbuilding, but which have truly quality content (not $0.01/word crap from forums) and get keyword-driven traffic and earn far more revenue than they would via parking pages.

On-page structure can't hurt -- keywords in titles, h1 tags, nofollow links out, sitemaps in html and xml, etc. But if you're going for long-term, it all starts with quality content. Most bookmarking services and similar paid SEO enhancements will only provide a temporary boost, as the value of a profile link or low PR blog post only lasts for so long (that is not to dissuade you from using such services; merely pointing out that most are not long-term solutions -- the web is dynamic, and search page results change almost daily for competitive terms.)

I've been doing SEO since 1999 and it's not hard.

But don't go for "rankings", go for traffic.

Read about SEO, there are many sites that will give information, here are the main things you should learn about:

1) Keyword research. You need to add to your site those keywords and phrases that people search with.

2) Have good content that uses as many of the keywords and phrases that you find in your research as you can. But don't overdo it. Write content that is also good English usage and doesn't sound too strange. You can repeat words more than normal writing, but not too much.

3) Learn how to have good page title tags and meta tags. Put as many keywords as possible that describe the page, but also make it good English and good advertising copy if you can.

4) Once your site is optimized, get some links from other sites. There are many good directory submission providers here at NP and the cost is low. Many don't like them, but I have been using them since I started and they have always provided benefit well worth the price. If you have time, you can also submit yourself, it's easy, just boring work that takes many hours. START with a submission to DMOZ.org. LEARN their rules and use it as a guide for how to submit to all other places, while follow the other sites rules also. Don't worry about submitting your site with keywords. DMOZ doesn't allow it and it looks like trash. Use your site name.

And don't be "afraid" to link to other sites that are good. Google may pass some PR value to other sites, but they will also see your site as a good resource.

5)If you follow these items, you will get rankings, but my advice is to not worry about rankings, only traffic. Watch your stats and see what is going on with your site. Let your stats be your measure and your guide for how you maintain your site.

Hi Mate,

SEO is a game of patience. You need to develop good content on your site and start marking authority links from other sites. And you will see the benefit in longer run.

Its about how much info you give and how many poeple ( in terms of links) connect to you ...it takes time to get on top if your keywords are really competitive.

Interestingly, type in traffic modestly affects (boosts)SERP as opposed to search engine traffic. Traffic is what matters most and traffic behavior also counts.

Actually, I have found that everything to boost SERP is right there on the Analytics page for a site. Google is basically looking for good and relevant content for their advertisers to advertise on. To this end, good content writers are probably more important than link building. I only wish I had better content.

Whatever they might say, it was definitely not true for my site which lost hundreds of inbound links when I changed the site (and this happens quite often) with absolutely no effect on the SERP. What does move it up and down is traffic, source of traffic, and traffic behavior.

Google, in Analytics, basically gives webmasters tools to tune their sites in a way that Google likes it and is reflected in Google's algorithms. In effect, Google is making webmasters unpaid employees by having them tune their websites in a manner that is most suitable for Google's advertising business. It is actually quite clever and cute.

Mostly SEO rotate about link building. So try to increase your back links on high PR sites. As this help in getting good Page rank for your site.
Also focus on social media sites, because in the world of today social media play a vital role in order to bring more and more traffic.
