What's the best alternative for a an ampersand symbol in a domain name?

Let's say the business name is X & Y
What's the best domain name format to follow?

XY.com
X-Y.com
XandY.com
XnY.com

Regged a 'couple' a while ago where I 'replaced' the ampersand with the number '8':

(dawtcoms)

Arts8Crafts

day8night

rock8roll

While it almost looks like & sign, doesn't it make the domain name hard to pronounce and also reduced the value because of a number mixed in the name?

Regged them because i liked how they looked.
I agree. You have to say 'eight' instead of 'and'.
So I guess they are not names for 'organic' type-in traffic.

I think it depends. Either drop the &, like M&Ms becomes MMs.com; or use "and", like Happy & Healthy becomes HappyAndHealthy.com.

How about using N in between?

For ex: Johnson N Johnson .com or Ben N Jerry .com (Not looking for these names and a UDRP)

Do these name formats sell?
