i just went to beef.com and found a parking page. i would have thought the american beef industry would have bought this one a long time ago. it seems a real waste having a parking page on a $250,000+ domain.

i wonder what he wants for it?

he probably does well on ppc but it really could be so much better :imho:

Many very expensive .com domains are just on parked pages. Try looking at a1.com (sold for $260k a few months back).

Over priced

Yea often times people will buy 2000 domains and do nothing with them they ask $1500 for them, what a waist wait til they expire then buy them up.

Look at Arcade.com - a parking page. Can you imagine the brandability for a name like that. Prob. makes a killer with PPC though.

I sent the owner of beef.com the link to this thread, but don't expect him to reply.

He's a crazy recluse. :)

Yes, very many domains worth high $xxx, xxx + figures are parked.
I hate that! Haha.

Arcades.com
Designs.com
DD.com
Blue.com (the notorious).
Brothers.com

... The list is endless.

Lets see with 2000+ OVT for beef.com.
Lets say the average PPC is $0.50 and 15% clickthru that is $150/month.

Also, 60000 OVT without ext and 25% of these end up at beef.com == 15000/month. 15% clickthru at $0.50 == another $1125/month.

$1275 * 12 months == $15300/year ==>> 9.8 year payout and their property will be increasing in value. My numbers are a WAG and if anything low. I would guess the name was bought looking for a 10 year payout.

All that stuff being said -- it is indeed a big shame that names like this are not developed but...

Yep it is very disappointing to find such good names just sitting there...

ya that domain should be made into a website.

Ok, hang on -- crazy recluse in the house.....

Develop? Sounds like work.

Hark has it right on the nose. Nail on the head. Milk in a bucket. Steak in a pan.

Kind of like seeing a vacant lot that is being used for a parking lot. You drive by and say "damn - that should be a high rise. Meanwhile the owner is counting his quarters while the value rises.

Sure he could hire an architect, dig a hole, build the high rise, sell the units out. Or he could enjoy life and sit on it for 10 or 20 years until someone who really, really, really wants to build a big barn to house crazy people ( http://xr.com/crazycows ) or a cinema to show sad movies ( http://xr.com/sadcow ) or, and I know this sounds really crazy, but maybe someone might want to move their existing high rise from an address in the suburbs (http://www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com/ ) to one that really says they know what they are doing.

So build a high rise, or sell the undeveloped lot to someone who has their own plans and agenda. Sell on potential, or sell a dilapidated, failed attempt at developing.

10 years to break even on a 4 letter one word .com that represents a multi-billion dollar industry. I only passed Calculus by getting a Math Tutor, but even I can do the math on this one all by myself...

Ok, going back to my hotel suite where I live with Howard Hughes' frozen cranium.

Beef- may I ask if you have had any offers on the domain since you've had it?

I can agree with Beef.If it was bought as an investment for later resale-why develope it.
Its value is in its potential use by some major food company i expect. As a domainer with no connection to the beef industry about all you can do with it is turn it into a recipe site and possibly even devalue it.Personally I would park it and collect a few dollars while it awaits a top dollar sale.

how about earth.com was sold at 800,000 :)
developed website would generate more $$$$$ than parking page

I can understand why the name is parked,,,In cases with a name that carries such a value,A development could actually hurt it,,Parking is the best option of revenue with beef.com imo,,As a long term investment,,The return when sold will be massive,Plus..The parking revenue made.

I know that developing the domain would be a lot of effort, however, if the ROI after developing such a domain is a lot higher, surely it would be worth it?

I mean, if the site was developed, traffic would also increase which would also increase advertising revenues. That and the added value of the domain being developed could massively increase the ROI saving you the 20 year wait.

After being in real estate during my life I fully understand the reply.

Why build now when the market still awaits areal boom cycle.

and the Beef Market - well with Mad Cows and Foot and Mouth it is hardly the time to sell, is it?
