I've recently backordered some names at Namejet. There were more than 1 bidders for these names. I put my highest bids at a few hundred dollars. Eventually I lost these bids because other people were willing to bid higher. So auction ended.

I tried to remove these backorders from my list but I couldn't. And when these names expire next year, I'd still be having these few hundreds of dollars backorder with the names.

So I emailed Namejet support, asking how to remove these names with $xxx backorder on the names. Here's the reply.
Hello
The only time that you can remove a name from your backorder. If you only put in a minmum bid of 70 dollars. If you increased it to anything above that we are not able to remove that from your back order list.
Thank you

What a ridiculous systems. Are they assuming that for an expired traffic domain, since I'm willing to pay $xxx for 1 name this year, I'll also be willing to pay $xxx next year when it expires even when the traffic has died down?

This is amounting to cheating!! Milking us like this.

Luckily there's always the option of canceling the credit card before next year....This truly is very strange policy by NameJet....crazy. Must be a mistake?!?

I backordered a few names that went into auction. I lost the auction but strangely enough those names are listed in my backorders again with a bid equal to my max bid during auction. I can't remove them so I guess I will have them backordered for the rest of my life or until I win an auction for them one day.

I can't imagine this is the way Namejets rules are supposed to work.

Imo Namejet is a company that:

1. Copied my account details from Enom/Enom Central etc. and gave me two (!) accounts without asking me and without my permission
2. Sends me a number of notifications about names pending deletion without asking me and without my permission
3. Have a very strange rule about backorders for the rest of your life.

They had to have misunderstood your request... That's just absurd if that really is their policy.

Believe me, their logic is non-existent and their thinking is absurd

I was just about to use them :tu:

So what if the name never expires again? Has the money been taken out your account or is it done when the domain is won?

I wonder what happens if I backorder with Namejet and Snap, Snap wins the domain for me and after a a few years I want to let it expire. Will Namejet try to catch the domain I want to get rid of for me, after failing to do so earlier?

This is crazy ! I'm not pleased with NameJet too for another reason.

I placed a bid of $70 (the minimum) for a pending delete domain, then I saw there were two bidders (another than me). So I wanted to put a higher bid but NameJet tells me "it's not a proxy bid, it's the minimum and maximum price you want to pay". Imagine I value this domain at $1000. I think it's normal for me to want to try to get it for less and want to start at $70, then enter in an auction and start being serious. But in NameJet FAQ : "If you feel a domain is a high value domain or your have a strong desire to get the name, it is recommended that you submit a Backorder bid higher than the minimum auction price as a way to indicate to our systems that the name is in great demand.". In other terms : as long as we are sure we get some substantial money, OK, we launch our system. The backorder simply disappeared from my list in NameJet, without any information that it had been taken.

The tricky part is that the domain was registred by Enom and NameJet is their partner for auctions. That's why I backorder the domain from them, thinking it was abvious NameJet would registrer it at drop at make an auction.

So I think the ONLY use of NameJet I can have will be when the domain is registred at Network Solutions or Enom, AND I'm willing to pay a high fixed price even if it doesn't go to auction. Not my average day...

Sounds smart.

Namejet support is completely unresponsive to my queries.

They seem to be completely absent and disinterested here as well - one of the biggest domainer forums....

NameJet I believe is OWNED by enom, not a seller. ENOM is owned by Demand Media. Some demand folks lurk in the TV section. I doubt they wander around anywhere else though.

I like to talk about them in there as well. (Enom and Demand that is.)

I finally got an answer from them and they changed the backorder management page (and the TOS). Deleting failed backorders or lost auctions above the minimum price of $70 is now possible:
Hello,

I do apologize for the delay but we finally have added the very thing you're asking. You now have the ability to remove those domains from your backorder list. Please log in to your account, click on "my account, click on "my backorders", put a check mark next to the names of the domains you wish to remove and then click on the "Remove Selected Domains" button.

Namejet support replied to my follow-up ticket 3 days ago, saying they will manually remove my wishlist if I am no longer interested in the domains. I replied authorizing the removal, and asked if they have plans to let us remove this by ourselves in the future.

I never heard back from them. I just logon to my namejet a/c and the names are still backordered in my wishlist. However, now I can remove the names from the wish list.

Finally some sense.

Hello everone,

I am very new to domaining. I was reading this post and then realized same thing had happened to me on a couple of domains with namejet. First can anyone explain how does the backordering work? DO they charge the credit card in the amount you bid regardless of if you win the domain or not? I have had two domains that I backordered with them and I assumed that the money is only charged to CC when and if you win the auction. Please Help . I havent gotten my CC statement to make sure if I was charged for these two domains that I backordered and lost in the auction. So Anyone who can help I will greatly appreciate. thanks

Just email them saying you dont want the names anymore. If they then take money from your card, you can raise a dispute. You can show them your email as evidence. If this happens repeatedly, believe me, they will change their policy or lose the ability to charge to different cards, 1 by 1.

Just an update for the benefit of readers.
Namejet has now allowed backorder names to be removed using the control panel.

Good news. Definitely the only legit way for them to do business.
