Sometimes I will run into a situation were Namejet.com has multiple bidders and Snapnames or Pheenix does not. This means if Snapnames or Pheenix gets the dropcatch, assuming no one else bids, I will get the domain for only the backorder fee. If Namejet wins the backorder then the domain goes to a private auction and gets bid up.

What is the best strategy is this situation? Still place backorders everywhere I can?

well all dropcatch services are automated. All go through auction in most cases. I doubt that other than some drop catch services like Godaddy or Name most of the other services go through an auction before awarding the domain. Not 100% sure of my statement, but thats what I feel based on past experience.

I think if you are the only bidder it does not go to auctuon.

I haven't used Snapnames, but w/ Pheenix, you are correct.
If you are the only bidder, you get the name right away.
If the name is important to you, backorder it everywhere.

Yes but you are not sure of that till the domain drops and whether you get it or it goes into auction. Its true for any other drop service that you have mentioned. If you are the only bidder you will get it. But some drop services, even after they catch a domain list it for auction.

So the best advice is to place order at as many drop services as I can? Hope the drop service with my one bid catches the domain name so there will be no auction?

BTW are some good drop catchers besides Snapnames, Namejet, and Pheenix?

Yes if domain is really important, try as many drop services as possible. Some do not require you to pay advance money (pay only if you are able to catch the domain.

Other site I can think of is dropcatch
