be careful when dealing with NP member dalem (real name Dale Mooney)
he bid on 2008.INFO on SEDO and later on told a friend of his to bid (and not pay) so as to avoid paying for the domain
30/12/07: dalem offers $550 for 2008.INFO in this thread
31/12/07: dalem offers $1800 in a PM
06/01/08: dalem asks me whether I would send it to the GreatDomains auction or mor in this thread
11/01/08: taking opportunity from his question (and his previous offer) , I tell him that if he sends a $3500 offer on SEDO I will send it to auction (mentioning "if there are no bids you can buy it at that price ... and if it gets more bids you can decide whether you want to keep on bidding or not ...")
11/01/08: he reples that he will send a $2500 offer if I send 7 $60-offers to 7 of his domains in this thread ... he signs his message as "Dale Mooney"
11/01/08: I reply that "I can only bid on names that I would be interested to buy ..." and that if he bids on 2008.INFO , I will bid on surereturn.com for $100
11/01/08: he replies that he agrees as long as I bid $150 for surereturn.com
11/01/08: at 21:00 GMT he bids $3000 on 2008.INFO (and I bid on surereturn.com)
18/01/08: 30 minutes before the end of the auction 2008.INFO gets one bid (around that time I get outbidded on surereturn.com)
after waiting 3 weeks for payment , I ask the SEDO agent to cancel the transaction
I then check on the SEDO contract for the details of the winning bidder (which SEDO provides in case the seller wants to pursue legal action) ... it says it is John Mudford in New Zealand (his full address is also included)
I search around the web ...
Dale Mooney in New Zealand is the person who came up with TRY-ON hand-scanning technology for jewelry which he developed through his HGM Design company (source)
the domain surereturn.com has Dale Mooney as the registrant with administrative email dale-hgmdesign@hotmail.com (screenshot also available in case the whois changes)
John Mudford is the general manager of Select Rings ... "enabled HGM Design to get their first system up and running at the purpose-built ‘Select Rings’ jewellery store in Auckland." (source)
you can connect the dots and easily understand that Dale Mooney asked his store manager to bid on 2008.INFO so that he would not have to pay for the domain ... I think he just didn't want to pay for the domain and not that he wanted to get a bid on his domain or domains because he showed interest in 2008.INFO previously (at lower prices) before any talk about bidding on his domains
after I found all this I PMed dalem asking whether he would honour his $3000 bid so as to correct his mistake ... he hasn't replied for a week even though I got a confirmation that he read the PM on the first day I sent it ...
I would not post all this , if I was not sure that the above information is correct and verified ... I am posting this because I think that NP members should be careful in their dealings with Dale Mooney ... backing off from an auction like this is unethical ... I think he just did not know that the seller can get the winning bidder's info on SEDO ...
PS: surereturn.com , 5 weeks after the auction is still on Dale Mooney's hands even though there was a winning bidder for that auction (who outbidded my $150 bid) ... therefore I think that John Mudford also bidded on that domain because Dale Mooney probably did not want to sell it for $150
(and expected it to go for a lot higher) ... regarding this , though , there is no proof other than the fact that Dale Mooney has shown similar behaviour (as described above) ... and the fact that both bids were about the same time (~ 30 minutes before the end times of both auctions which were just 9 minutes apart)
