With all the news around GoDaddy ( NYSE: GDDY ) acquiring Name Administration Inc, and Uniregistry. There was some of the back and forth between .commers and new gtld fans. Some made comments saying see GoDaddy did not want the registry business because they are not high on new gtlds. That's not true, they made a decision years ago not to compete. They make money in other ways from new … [Read more...]

They did not buy any of Michael Berkens nGTLD; just registrations, not extensions.

I would say more than likely they don't think new extensions are as viable as legacy extensions when it comes to resale.

Oh yes on Mike's I agree Brad, but there was discussion on the registry side and Mike pointed out to me they couldn't or wouldn't based off their statements at Registry days back in 2013.

Some have told me they believe Frank sells the registry to Donuts or possibly Radix. Who knows, it's mere speculation.

Thanks for that information that way back in 2013 GoDaddy made a conscious decision to not compete on the registry side. I think it was actually a smart decision. I had not realized that they had original tried to get .home and .casa. As always your long-term perspective means to much to the community @equity78 (helped in this case by Mike B's recollection from the event).
Thanks again,
Bob

I think that was a very wise decision looking back from 2020, with the advantages of hind-sight. Although they may have handled it better. Although it's debate-able :)
