.info Average .com or keyword rich .info?

I'm about to launch a new project and am pondering whether it's best to go with a keyword rich .info that pertains directly to the products I'm selling or a brandable .com

I'm looking for any and all feedback. Real world examples would be even better. Does anybody have any high ranking .info's on Google etc? I never seem to see an .info's on the first page. Well atleast not for any 'competative' search terms.

What's the current thinking on this issue?

To illustrate LeatherShoes.info or LuxsShoeHut.com.

Thanks

Lux

I'd recommend the brandable .com name if it is a nice, short, memorable one :imho:

As others mentioned a brandable .com would be a wise choice but if you don't get a nice .com name then theres no point in getting an average .com name. In this case I think a keyword rich .info would be much better.

Thanks for the feedback so far. How about hearing from some of the 'old school' domainers too? ;)

Yes info's With Keywords Can and Do make Good Chice's for Search engine listing

But so does another category of names often forgetten
Sites with keyword rich subdomain, sudirectory or FileNames
Example
"InternetSharing" 272,000 results in GOOGLE search

None on the First page are for
any Internetsharing.TLD at all
But are for various other sites with "internetsharing" keywords in Subdomains or Filenames.
The first listing for
InternetSharing.TLD
is at position 17
And is Cough Cough
InternetSharing.info (Some Dodgy MiniSite by ME)

If you are "selling" something I personally would go for a brandable or keyword .com - I think .info looks silly unless the site is "specifically" used for information.

Thanks for the real world example BFT. Not too sure though as it relys on a mistype.

So taking my 'illustration' from the OP which one would you go for? Or...and here's another twist...what do you think about going with the brandable but having the keyword .info redirect to it?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Mistype ,What Mistype

InternetSharing Is A common Term ,not a Typo

And Yes I have used that Idea with a KeyWordRich.info redirecting to a Different But Brandable.com

Oh sorry...I assumed InternetSharing was a mistype of 'Internet Sharing'.

My $0.02.

While I am a strong supporter of .info I feel that it is not proper for pure commercial site but you mention webhostinghelp.info which could IMHO be made to work. I have a new (9 months old) pure informational site which I still have tons of content to add. It is currently nearly paying the (Enom EPT reup) reg fee every week with under 50 uniques/day -- AND GROWING. The name (2 words) perfectly matches the content. I fully expect 1st page on the big G by 2007. It already is at MSN -- just looked & #1.

Even with the above the .com does rule & DO NOT use the .info for primarily commercial activity.

Also, if doing an informational & com available grab it & redirect to your .info which you will promote.

Thanks for that hark.

Just an FYI. I looked at rose ville pottery in your sig and there's a stray '<' in the top left corner.

I would go for keyword rich .info then go for average .com, but if .com is brandable, i would go with it!

it depends on what kind of project you are "about to launch a new project"? If it is just some tips or info, then .info is OK. But anything serious go with .com

I'd go keyword rich .info without a doubt...

My portablemp3players.info made the number one spot or first page on MSN almost immediately for several variations of the domain.

Depends on the "project".

If you can justify the .info - provide info on product e.g. how to use, etc. - then the keyword rich .info would make it easier to attain decent serp results.
If it is a strictly commercial venture then the .info would be a little misleading and might not give you a decent conversion of visitors to buyers.

Depends on how you plan to promote. If you can afford to spend $$$ to brand then serp isn't so important and brandable .com might be better.

Best of both worlds - get brandable .com to point to main entry page and get keyword rich .info to point to information section of site. Satisfy the info seekers and promote .com brand.
