Available in some registrars, Taken in others?

As I check the availability of some gTLD names, I've noticed a strange pattern that I can not explain.
Sometimes I find a name I want and check it at a given registrar and see that is available. However, when I check it at other registrars, the name shows up as not available.

Can anyone explain what exactly this means?

More than likely the registrars that show "not available" are the registries that do not support premium priced domains and the domain you searched for was premium priced.

I dislike the concept of premium priced. Sell them all the same, and let the free market after registration determine the value. Ah well.

On occasion, I have had registrars give me bad information, bugs in their system that couldn't handle a service temporarily unavailable from the registry controlling the TLD resulting in false report that it is not available.
