RE: Autonomous & Driverless car domains

Seems like there's a lot of news lately, as recently as the last few days, of advances in driverless & autonomous cars. There are multiple auto makers getting ready to launch some form of these cars, and of course, Google is working on their project car.

I have a handful of domains related to this news & technology, and I am wondering if anybody else has any? Also, any spike in traffic to your domains, or news of sales???

How Uber Deceives the Authorities Worldwide

SAN FRANCISCO โ€” Uber has for years engaged in a worldwide program to deceive the authorities in markets where its low-cost ride-hailing service was resisted by law enforcement or, in some instances, had been banned.

The program, involving a tool called Greyball, uses data collected from the Uber app and other techniques to identify and circumvent officials who were trying to clamp down on the ride-hailing service. Uber used these methods to evade the authorities in cities like Boston, Paris and Las Vegas, and in countries like Australia, China and South Korea.

AImotive aims to convert regular cars into driverless ones inexpensively

The AImotive office is in a small converted house at the end of a quiet residential street in sunny Mountain View, spitting distance from Googleโ€™s headquarters. Outside is a branded Toyota Prius covered in cameras, one of three autonomous cars the Hungarian company is testing in the sleepy neighbourhood. Itโ€™s a popular testing ground: one of Googleโ€™s driverless cars, now operating under spin-out company Waymo, zips past the office each lunchtime.

While other autonomous car projects, including those from Waymo and Uber, rely on an expensive (but very useful) radar-like system called Lidar for depth perception and obstacle detection (as well as cameras for seeing the colour of traffic lights and signs), AImotive is trying to do the same using regular cameras combined with artificial intelligence. This means the company can convert a regular car into a driverless one for a fraction of the price โ€“ around $6,000 โ€“ as opposed to $70,000-$100,000.

VW unveils an all-electric and self-driving van for future autonomous zero-emission taxi services

As we recently reported, virtually all automakers are currently working on some form of driverless ride-sharing/taxi services. Whether itโ€™s through investments in existing services, like GM with its acquisition and investment in Cruise Automation and Lyft respectively, or through direct development like Tesla with its Autopilot and โ€˜Tesla Networkโ€˜ programs.

Renault and Nissan recently unveiled their own effort and now itโ€™s time for Volkswagen to step in with a new concept called โ€œSedricโ€.

Sedric is an all-electric and fully autonomous vehicle aimed at the shuttle/taxi industry.

Interestingly, the vehicle is described as โ€œthe first Concept Car of the Volkswagen Group and cross-brand ideas platformโ€ โ€“ meaning that it doesnโ€™t come from one of Volkswagen specific brand (VW, Audi, Porsche, etc.), but it instead features the Volkswagen Group logo.

The German automakerโ€™s brands have been collaborating when it comes to electric vehicles, like with charging, and with autonomous driving technologies.

Volkswagen writes about Sedric:

โ€œThe Concept Car Sedric is a central component of this mobility solution. In conjunction with its equally innovative control system, Sedric is giving entirely new meaning to the concept of autonomous driving. The touch of a button suffices. And the self-driving automobile comes along and takes its passengers conveniently and safely to their destination.โ€

CEO Matthias Mรผller unveiled the vehicle on the eve of the 87th Geneva International Motor Show today

This Chinese-Backed Startup Will Start Selling Self-Driving Electric Cars By 2020

NIO, the Chinese-backed startup formerly known as NextEV, is bringing an autonomous electric car to the U.S. by 2020, the company's U.S CEO Padmasree Warrior announced Friday at an event during SXSW in Austin, Texas.

The startup will partner with Israeli-based Mobileye, which develops camera-based systems to help drivers avoid collisions, Nvidia, and NXP Semiconductors, the world's largest chip supplier to the automotive industry. Nvidia has developed an artificial intelligence computing platform that Audi and other automakers are using to deploy autonomous vehicles.

NIO's self-driving car will have Level 4 autonomy, a designation defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers as a vehicle that can handle all aspects of driving in most conditions, even if a human driver doesn't respond when asked to take over controls.

The car will first be introduced to the U.S. market followed by Europe, Warrior told Fortune in an interview following the event.

The car will be completely capable of driving itself in "constrained environments," Warrior says.

Reports: Intel buying Mobileye for up to $16B to expand in self-driving tech

First they partnered, and now comes the acquisition: multiple media outlets in Israel arereporting that the computing giant Intel is acquiring Mobileye, a leader in autonomous driving technology, for up to $16 billion (or $15-16 billion as one source tells us).

We have a strong signals too from our own sources on this story. One tells us that Mobileyeโ€™s R&D will remain in Israel: โ€œNothing will be moved to the states [and] Intel may open another R&D center in the country focused on automotive.โ€ Mobileyeโ€™s CTO will head up Intelโ€™s automotive division, he added.

TechCrunchโ€™s sources tell us that Mobileye will be gathering staff for an announcement, so the news could be official soon. Another source tells us that the acquisition wonโ€™t be official until after the market closes later today.

If confirmed, this would be the biggest-ever acquisition of an Israeli tech company. Other notable exits that have also tapped into the countryโ€™s expertise in computer vision and machine learning have included Google buying mapping startup Waze for $1.1 billion and Apple buying 3D sensor specialist PrimeSense for reportedly around $300 million.

Intel's Mobileye Deal Marks Israel as Autonomous Tech Hub

Intel CEO Explains Why They're Buying Mobileye...

Israelโ€™s emergence as a center for automotive technology got a vote of confidence on Monday when Intel Corp. said it would pay $15 billion for Mobileye NV, a Jerusalem-based maker of chips and software for driverless cars. It will be the largest takeover of an Israeli tech firm and follows a series of deals and partnerships inked in recent years by major tech and auto companies.

โ€œThe deal proves in a dramatic manner that our vision is coming true. Israel is becoming a global technology center, not only in cyber, but also in the automotive area,โ€ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a text message. Israel had already singled out the automotive technology sector as a possible economic boon, allotting it 250 million shekels ($68 million) for the next five years.
