I'm trying to get a domain through GoDaddy auctions, there is an auto-bidder who has beat me twice. There is one hour left to bid and the auto bidder made the exact bid as me and is WINNING! For me to outbid I have to bid 5 dollars more.

I don't understand how the auto-bidder is beating me after making the same bid as me, how come he didn't need to at least have a higher dollar amount as me??

Thanks, I feel like calling GoDaddy but I need to know if that's normal first.

Thanks for any enlightenment.

Hello Chris, everytime someone place a bid the system re-place a bid automatically until the maximum budget is reached, all you can do to win the auction is continue bidding until you reach his/her maximum budget, however be careful not to spend too much! :)

On GoDaddy you can put your maximum bid. If someone "bidder 4" puts a bid of $200.

You bid $150 ... "bidder 4" will automatically outbid with $155.
You bid $175 ... "bidder 4" will outbid with $180.
You bid $200 ... "bidder 4" will outbid with $200.

Because it was his max bid and he made it before you. You just matched it so he is still the leader.

Lets take an example to see how this works :

I put first a bid of $12, than I set my automatically bid to a maximum value that I will pay for that domain, lets say $200. Each time you bid less than $200 you are already defeted by my next autobid !

OK, so If I matched his bid, to use your example of $200, and the auto bidder bid $200 too (because he already made it before) an won ... then that must mean that his the maximum bid is only $200 then?

it's how all autions work

I want domain1
I place my bid for it of $200
but it took only $150 to go past previous max bid
so now bid is $150

then you bid $155
bot bids $160 on my behalf.

you bid $170, bot says $175 on my behalf..

you say $205, my bot goes away

Exactly.

Also, if for example, when you bid $200 you get outbid with a bid of $201. You notice the increment of only $1 is under what it should have been at that level. So it is a good indicator that your next bid will not be outbid. You next bid will take the lead.

OK, good stuff guys thanks. The domain that's being auctioned is pretty nice, it has 10,000 clean back links for the niche I'm ranking in search ... but it's not that nice and he can chok... er ... I mean have it lol.
