Godaddy 7 day auctions are free with the $5 yearly membership. That makes it essentially free.

It's a not-so-useful cliche, but it really depends on the name. A lower end domain that isn't in a hot market won't get much attention. But, you can set your minimum offer and if the domain doesn't sell in 7 days, then relist it automatically. Lots of domains sell in GoDaddy auctions. You should check out the auctions that are going on to get an idea of how it goes. At any given time, there are LOTS of domains with no bids.
