Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Watch
Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Some deals take a strange turn. Remember this discussion?
Question for the savvy Atom users:

An Atom Premium domain with a BIN of $5,300 is also listed on Afternic, at a price 10% higher.

An Afternic broker informed me of an offer of $3,000.
Normally, I would accept that for the domain name in question, but because of the Atom Premium listing, my hands are tied.

How would you proceed to sell on Afternic for $3,000 without violating Atom's regulations? (I haven't yet considered reducing the Atom BIN to 3k.)
Here is what happened:
  • Domain name 33Labs .com listed as Atom Premium, NS pointed there. Also listed 10% higher on Afternic, for $5,288.
  • Afternic broker informed about a $3k offer.
  • I was unsure what I am allowed to do with my domain and asked the forum. Received recommendations by @E. Silvera and @NameGroove .
  • Set Afternic floor price $3,400 and changed NS to Afternic (fees!). Two brokers worked on it (new and old lead).
  • A few days later, both negotiations were shown as Stalled. Changed NS back to Atom and deleted Afternic floor price.
  • One day later, someone bought the domain for BIN $5,288 on Afternic.
  • I reported the sale here.

What do you mean you don't have time to list on Afternic?
This is a long story.

Years ago, I messed up my Afternic portfolio during an upload. The reason is that my German version of MS Excel can't handle the American .csv format used by Afternic. This is still the case today.

Back then, Afternic assigned me a portfolio manager, to whom I prepared manually populated CSV sheets, and who then correctly entered the data. Time-consuming with a bigger portfolio.

When I started working with Atom in 2024, I asked him to upload the premium listings, and he said Afternic didn't like that. Since then, I've been timid with Afternic. I've had new portfolio guy for quite some time now and I'm hesitant when it comes to Atom listings, for example, when he asks why I want LTO disabled what he doesnยดt recommend.

Do you get the impression that Afternic's attitude towards Atom has normalized? @ anybody?

Then all you have to do is go to Afternic/Add Domains and upload the spreadsheet.
It would be the dawn of a golden future for me if Atom downloads and Afternic uploads worked really flawlessly.

I don't need to open the CSV file, so I can't damage it with Excel. Hmm.

Does this method actually work for all Atom users? @ anybody?

I wonder why Atom now uses "Secure This Domain" on their Buy it Now listings?

Even I did a double-take the first time I saw it, as the word "secure" has a primary meaning as it pertains to security of "being free from danger, fear, or risk of loss" and "secure this domain" also has a direct security meaning in the biz.

I realize "Secure" also has a fourth-tier meaning (behind 2. "fastened or positioned securely" and 3. "free from worry") of "to get or achieve something", but that's pretty low on the definitions list to be using as primary BIN button.

I realize Atom is trying to be different and edgy with their terminology, but simple is usually better and it should say "Buy This Domain" or "Purchase This Domain" or at least use some term whose primary definition fits the bill.

You can use Chatgpt, just upload the sample/export .csv and tell it you want your spreadsheet in the same format and to convert it from German to English, but not touch the domain names or other important info.

Or it can create a batch script to do it for you.

Does any marketplace still use the words 'Buy it now' ?

Actually, you shouldn't have to convert the .csv at all.

Just download the Atom export and upload it as-is. Don't open it in your spreadsheet program or it might change the format.

Just hit 7 months of no Atom Premium sales with 1040 names.

Daily average platforms views have dropped by 75%.

What a disgrace.

Just listed at Atom or nameservers all pointed there too on the 1040 names?

Like it or not.

@Atom.com been getting errors the past few days adding instant premiums:

While it says failed, it seems to have been added and haven't encountered any problems. Just mentioning in case there's some other issue with it that I haven't encountered yet.

Probably not, but I think either eBay or Amazon trademarked that for online use, so it's hardly surprising.

Yeah, I think Amazon did the same thing with "Add to Cart" and I keep mixing them up.
Perhaps not. But maybe they have something similar, since you did get the other one right!

It's was "business process" patent revolving around how they "Add to Cart" and specifically a certain 1-click operation... that seems to have expired.

I know it was a big deal with Amazon first outlined the patent, with lots of challenges from major firms. But again, Amazon let it expire, probably because it was virtually unenforceable.

Atom Premium names need to use their NS.
Yeah I forgot this. Initially when I listed mine I liked some of their suggested price ranges but not all so I only approved the price ranges I liked.

After a while I emailed them and had them remove the portion I had approved due to low activity and rules/restrictions placed on them. So Iโ€™m 100% standard listings now.

You have patience if youโ€™ve waited 7 months and are still there with no results yet.

Sorry, I can't keep track of all the rules and regulations for Atom premiums.

Personally speaking, after 7 months of zero sales I would transfer them all to Standard (leaving the NS active on Atom) then cross-list them at every other marketplace on earth, especially Afternic and Spaceship for the inherent traffic.
