Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Watch
Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I wonder if they are integrating some of the new registrar features?
Could be.

Here's a mockup shared by Atom in the Helpdesk section:

For a registrar, uptime and availability is even more important.

Just saying.

I wonder if my fake bidders on Atom are really just trolls and stalkers.
Are they in fact serious businesspeople losing trust or patience when experiencing unstable environment of lander checks, payment instructions etc.?

Anyone here using the Atom API (Seller Management API or the Partnership API)? How long did it take for your application to be accepted, because almost 4 months later and I am still waiting for access...

I have standard listings on Atom and get around 250 views daily for 500 listed names. Is that accurate?

That's about in line with my standard. I'd say maybe 1 in 10 views are from their platform and the rest direct lander views.

Must be bot traffic, you can't have tens of thousands of views and not a single enquiry / offer / sale.

I think that is the case. I had over a thousand short lists from 30 premium names and never a single sale.

Thanks for pointing this out. This slipped through because your account is set up as a trusted seller.

We offer this option based on a sellerโ€™s history with Atom, number of sales, and overall track record. Trusted-seller accounts can upload domains without going through the standard ownership-verification step, which helps streamline bulk listing for proven sellers, but it does rely on the feature being used responsibly.

Weโ€™ll review this flow and add checks so invalid formats canโ€™t be listed even with bypass access. If the trusted-seller privilege is misused, we may need to take action or reevaluate access to the bypass.

Thanks again for surfacing it.
I would like to correct you.

The "verified domains" tag appears because I am trusted seller, that part is correct.

Anyone can still list anythng, albeit without the verified tag (or even with verified tag, but have to verify with txt record)

In fact I did another testing from a new account and I was able to list a sub.sub.sub.subdomain.domain.com (and verify it)

They're already working on it, so there's no need to test with another invalid domain so soon.

From their post:

"Weโ€™ll review this flow and add checks so invalid formats canโ€™t be listed even with bypass access."

Anyway, I'm glad I removed all my premium listings, thats quiet an amateurish way to keep sellers on their platform by giving them hope that they have millions of meaningless views.

I only mentioned one extreme example before, but there are really several scenerios that need to be taken care of. One of such senerios is listing subdomains of valid domains (so that it can be verified with a txt record).

Thanks @Shailendra Mishra

It would be best if @Atom.com performed checks across DNS/RDAP/WHOIS, while also referencing the Public Suffix List (also available here) to determine if the domain is a 'subdomain'. A "public suffix" is one under which Internet users can (or historically could) directly register names.

There are only two real 'domain marketplace' metrics: 1) offers from verified buyers and 2) completed sales.

Everything else is a potential rabbit hole and is not to be trusted.
