Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

NamecheapNamecheap
Watch
Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Has anyone noticed it is easy to manipulate โ€œstrong buyer interestโ€œ tag in Atom market place? Just need to visit the landing page few times directly.

Probably potential buyer had a round table conference with his board of directors. They all enjoyed looking at my domain for an hour before falling asleep ๐Ÿ˜‚. Hope they will wake up and click the buy button.
Don't assume that they're falling asleep or eating dinner. My busiest lander Cleanzil.com (49m 55s) now has an Australian competitor at Cleanzil.com.au with a website already set up and a logo that looks remarkably similar to mine.

You can also shortlist your own domains infinite times in a row. At least I can.
Go visit my domain VibeCodingAI.com. I managed to shortlist it 22 times in a row

I replied Maybe because I tried it on one of mine, it seems like it took it, then I refreshed the page and it reverted back to the former number.

Its there.

I just did a quick check of your latest 3 or 4 regs of the day. I think you may be pricing too high as they are all listed for well over $5k.
Most are at $4999, they were around 2-4K for most of the year, and non sold. The second bucket is 8999/9999.

Inspired by saving 5% in commission & the two leading (5K & 10K) psychological pricing points.

There is also another psychological aspect, the higher the price, the higher the perceived value.

STR Points

I don't see STRs going up on Atom, just a continual drop. They seem to do well for .ai and super premium .coms. The top 1% of domainers. Far too many domains for a brandable marketplace and too hard for buyers to navigate. I think at present addition rates 400,000 domains by Next Feb/March. Unfortunately the ๐ŸŽ has bolted. No reason why 500,000 wont be achieved in 18 months time. The only losers are us.

I think they will have to start a new marketplace called Premium + or something like that, that will be human curated or else face a big exodus within a year. They made the mistake of giving Ai an important job too early.
Yeah, not sure why folks with mid 5 to 6 figure names give up 15-25%, they can sell on any lander, even a custom one.

They have gone crazy on pricing $5K is the new $2k. I guess 30% of $5k seems nicer
It's 25% over $4999

25% is already absurd, 30% is insane.

** Platform Discovery Views in atom, Means Search Views in spaceship

Is this true ? I thought this was just your name is part of the displayed names when you key in a search word on Atom. I thought it was an exact match search on Spaceship.
Search views on Spaceship are exact match only (SLD+TLD). Namecheap views are SLD only - and more akin to Platform discovery views

You say the following: "And therein is another issue - all those discovery views aren't necessarily appropriate."

That in itself could be viewed as "massaging stats". Atom wants sellers to show that there are lots of people looking at your names, and therefore they have likely used the broadest sort of scope to justify any sort of "platform discovery view".

And they can tell any investors that they have a billions of views on their combined domains, but they have not provided us with the exact way their algorithm counts these views. Most of these "views" are (likely) completely unrelevant and therefore shouldn't be included.

Add to this the fact that the "direct lander visits" are very very low and you can see that Atom might have had an agenda to present sellers with these sort of statistics.

There's a difference between Atom's inability to get search correct and "massaging stats". Although Atom has improved in this regard, getting search correct is very difficult. Search Google for exhibit A. Search Bing for exhibit B. This does not mean Atom is nefariously massaging stats.

As for direct landers. Quality is visited. Quality sells. If one of my names sees no visits over long stretches, I drop it. It's crap.

@Atom.com Many of my names are showing 60% completeness and the reason why is the system wants me to "generate logo". However all my names have logos. Apparently for many early (near launch) Ai generated logos - the system doesn't recognize the fact there is a logo. While this isn't affecting my names, it makes it difficult for me to manage my large folio - as I can't tell where I may have missed a logo (since so many show at 60% erroneously) making it impossible to find the few that may actually be missing a logo. Can you please fix?

-35% impact in STR is huge, considering that your are only raising the price 20% from 5k to 6k.

I understand the 5% savings when the domain sells for 5k+ but I think you are not maximising your chances of selling if you price domains like Epoch Gold . com at 9k, especially during the first year.

I would personally price this one at right above 5k (so you can benefit from the 5% savings in commissions).

It's crazy to me the number of people that don't change the recommended price of a premium domain when they submit.

9 times out of 10, if a domain is worth $5,000, Atom will suggest $4,995. Most will leave it at this.

Increasing the price just $4 to $4,999 reduces your commission from 30% to 25% and nets you few more hundred $$$.

I would prefer that the price bracket for 25% was from $4,990. I like to use price levels like $4,990 and $1,990. But yes, definitely better off changing pricing to $4,999. The extra $250 adds up if you sell a few.

I would not worry about 5% commission, I would be more concerned with trying to get a sale in the first place. Atoms recommended prices have shot up lately. With an overpriced domain you will receive 75% of $0 , with a properly priced domain you have a chance of 70% of $xxxx.
