Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Good here.

Something I'm thinking about. I'm sure some of you who have been with Atom for a while have thoughts on this.

So, my best names are asked by AI to uplist to premium. If I'm getting traffic on Plus, is it really worth uplisting to premium and pay 30% commission compared to 15% commission on Plus? I'm sure listing on Premium increases our chances of finding a buyer, but by how much?

Plus barely gets more views than Standard. It's benefits are retargeting ads and broker assistance.

Here's my take
1- dictionary words in altTLDs should absolutely be Plus to try to gain extra exposure via Atom's Sapphire Marketplace
2- the subset of words that fail to achieve Sapphire can keep Plus for retargeting ads.
3- All true brandables (those highly unlikely to get direct traffic) - are worth Atom Premium (and corresponding commission). A true brandable is made up, mashed up, misspelled, etc. Atom allows these to be seen rather than sitting and waiting for someone to create it on their own.
4- For double keywords (where the anchor keyword is known "health", "bet", "pay", etc. - this is the grey area. Due to the strength of the anchor keyword you may get some direct type ins. It is this category where you have to decide whether speed or revenue is paramount. But since domains are price inelastic - you basically can just raise the price once Atom premium approved and make up the difference.

So for me - I put everything I can into Atom premium except dictionary altTLDs which go into Plus (and hopefully Sapphire). People make too much of commissions - if a domain is good, you can raise the price 15% and it'll still sell. if the domain is not good, it won't sell at any commission rate.

Ok so I can access Atom fine through my VPN but not at all without it. Anyone know what this means or why it would have changed in the last 24hr?

It's difficult to assess and debug for your (it seems) individual situation.

Yeah I thought that might be the case. Just don't know why that would have changed today. Oh well maybe it'll change back ๐Ÿคท

Good information, thanks.

For me most of mine are double keywords in .com. I have 78 in Plus and 15 in Premium. So far, I can't tell much difference, and my better names are in Premium. I did raise my Premium names in price a little like you said. I sure wish they would lower premiums to 20-25% commission. As it is I'm using boost at GD, but Atom name servers. A sale at GD/AN is 30% too.

I agreed and a buyer agreed to a sale price last Saturday below my "buy now" price. I was OK with it. This was listed at both Atom/AN, but sold at AN. So far buyer hasn't paid up. AN broker doesn't communicate much with me. I've had to contact him every time. He says he's pushing the issue for payment. I have no access to my name now in GD. I'm pulling my name back July 1 if no payment by then.

Atom's logo maker generates a lot of .Ai logos. It's near unusable for me, I want either .ai or .AI (and an iterative process).

I got frustrated with Atom's logo generator so I decided to use ChatGPT for logos. I paid the $20 monthly fee and will cancel it before the month is up. It takes a bit longer but I'm able to fine tune the output by telling ChatGPT exactly what to fix / change / alter, etc.

Yup. Of course Atom's approach (regenerating one-shots) is fundamentally wrong, I was just hoping that their AI would get the most simple stuff right. (one domain, 5 tries, all are .Ai , thankfully I will soon have no tokens left and I sure as hell won't purchase more)

That's exactly what happened to me (and I said the exact same thing). Re-do's should be free, but they're not, so...

Sounds more like a slot machine.

Glad to see you are liking the switch.

I have tons of logos I love from my GPT, but just ran into some issues when I finally decided to go to Premium for a handful of names. I had not added my logos to them before submitting for premium and they were approved in minutes. So now I am at the mercy of Atom even though I created the thread about using GPT for logos and knew that once premium they couldn't be changed >:(

I am planning on adding 50 names to premium as it appears you get more pricing control once you have at least 50? I don't quite understand the tiers if someone could explain a bit better.

Then my other question is, what will happen to my standard listings that I already uploaded my preferred logos to when I switch them to premium? Is it going to automatically remove it, or will it let me keep it?

@Atom.com I notice when searching google, some but not all, of your premium indexed names show a "3 day return policy". Is this a toggle a seller can turn on or off?

For some of my sales, I've been paid before 3 days - does this mean that in these cases, I shouldn't count the money as mine?

Here is the link to the benefits at each level. https://www.atom.com/marketplace-benefits

In short, if you have 50 premium listings, you can increase price by up to 50% of approved price (e.g. if approved at $3000, can list at your discretion between $3000 and $4500). Keep in mind their approved price is what they suggest for pricing to be competitive on their market. So in my opinion price flexibility should be used sparingly and after due consideration.

The other benefits are worthwhile as well, in particular the 5 free Super Boosts that will get you better in search results for a period. They have a set number of them. so you won't always be able to use them on a day, and best to try early in the day.

At 100 Premium (Gold) the price flexibility increases to 100% so can double the suggested price.

There is also a Platinum level for those with 500+ premium listings, that allows you to increase by up to 300%.

Then my other question is, what will happen to my standard listings that I already uploaded my preferred logos to when I switch them to premium? Is it going to automatically remove it, or will it let me keep it?
I have not uploaded logos myself, but normally now the suggested logo, in my experience, is normally the last logo when approved. You can reject that and design one with AI if prefer. If you accept existing logo get a free logo redesign credit. Atom rejects uploaded for premium if they have not met their expectations for the premium marketplace.

Logo guidelines are more stringent for Atom Premium domains. When you upgrade a Standard or Plus domain to Premium, Atom will re-evaluate any existing logo under these tighter rules. For example, logos with busy or cluttered backgrounds will be rejected, since such designs draw disproportionate attention within the marketplace, and can undermine brand clarity. But if the logo is satisfactory, it will simply remain intact.

The โ€œFree 3-day returnsโ€ notice is part of a recent experiment to test paid ads on Google Shopping listings, and weโ€™ll be adjusting it in the near future.

To clarify: once a domain is successfully transferred to the buyer, the sale is final and refunds are not offered. Buyers may request a refund within 24 hours if the transfer hasnโ€™t been initiated and certain conditions are met. The 3-day window is intended solely to protect buyers in rare cases where a seller is unresponsive. If weโ€™re unable to transfer the domain due to seller inaction or refusal (which violates our Terms), buyers may request a refund after 3 days.

However, once the domain has been delivered (even within a few hours ), the transaction is considered complete and is no longer refundable. Buyers agree to our Terms at the time of purchase, which are available on our website.

So, it's more about 3-day refunds than 3-day returns?

I don't like anything about this. Does anyone else here like this?

@NameGroove - thanks for pointing this out!
