Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I had an offer and a sale last month at AN. The broker told me to change the name servers before ending the negotiations and completing the sale.
Lucky you. I'll try it next time before I agree to the price. Thanks

The sad part I know they found it on Atom.

Maybe it has been discussed, but what is "My top trending names" based on?

It doesn't look like the popularity bar is based on views or shortlist.

Unfortunately, Atom is not producing the sales numbers that Afternic can generate. Lots of potential, though.

WLM no longer shows your own domains when going to "View All Names" which takes you to <your-wlm-url>/search even if you have "Promote my own listings" and landing page destination set to "My Marketplace" selected in your WLM configuration...

Home page WLM only shows 20 of your names without being able to filter/sort and when you click on view all it shows all of Atom's names instead of yours like it used to.

edit:
e.g.
brandname.now/search used to show only my listings and were sortable/filterable
brandname.now only shows 20 of my names and are not sortable/filterable

Whats the point of a WLM if you have to link to your domain portfolio instead of WLM?

They made this change recently without notifying users as it used to work with personal listings for the past several months as expected

GG
^ same issue is happening again lol, looks like they reverted changes on the platform

I saw this as I was trying to search a sellers WLM. All I saw were Atom names - not the sellers. Not sure why a seller would want to promote WLM if they can't even get their own names searched.

After clearing WLM cache in config it seems to have fixed the issue for me just now but weird how it just switches to all atom listings and only way you find out is if you manually visit your page

I will never understand how these lowball bids are able to sneak in, other than hammerheads messaging or calling in and begging a support guy to submit their crap bid. Either way, it should not happen, as otherwise why even have a Minimum Bid setting?

For example, I have a $1K minimum at Atom and just now I got 4-5 of emails from them, and I'm thinking I sold a BIN or some offers were accepted (Yeaaa! :xf.grin::xf.grin::xf.grin:)... but no... ALL of the emails were for the same domain... and the offer was a measly $350. No idea what that took 4-5 emails to advise me of that garbage bid, but it's a total waste of time, as I immediately deleted the bid and hid the transaction.

I had the same thing happen at Afternic - on a domain I had a $2K minimum, a hobo somehow slid a $250 bid in there, which I promptly disregarded, as well as the subsequent "please reply to the buyer" emails. F-You buddy, I have a $2K minimum for a reason, to KEEP THESE NITWITS FROM BOTHERING ME, but apparently Afternic brokers can't make the link to something so obvious.

Jesus, I could build a 20-foot wall around my domains and the marketplace brokers would all be giving out free ladders.

Anyone else set 4-figure minimum bids and still get penniless hobos harassing you with lowball bids?

Yes, last week. I raised the price in retaliation.

Atom about to discount your names. Opt out now (or stay in).

First time experiencing this type of sale event. What happens, does Atom remove any discounts and then apply their sale OR do they apply their sale to our already discounted names? Last, what is their discount?

Any already active discount will be replaced by their discount, up to 25%.

So their discretion... Do y'all recommend trying it? It looks like all in or not. Hmm.

Yes, it's an account-wide setting indeed, but I remember that once active during that period, you are still able to override it on a per-domain basis. No guarantee.

Previously, I was opted-in, but I just did an opt-out. I'm not using any discount any longer for any of my domains.

The problem is, this gives them an "in" to harass you via the negotiation window, which is the whole point of the Minimum Offer feature. To keep these idiots away.

On the domain page it shows how many Extensions are Registered with your exact match domains in other TLDS.

It would also be cool to show how many domains are registered that contain your exact match domain, starts with + end with. Expireddomains .net shows this on their site.

I had opted in to a Black Friday sale last year... nada.

I no longer opt in to these sales. If I want to discount, I do it manually (they allow up to 15%). Although I rarely offer discounts.
My domains are fairly priced. I see no reason to provide 25% discounts.

People throw the kitchen sink at Atom. Atom has to sift through a lot of crapola to find the gems.
I submitted a perfect-10 domain name on the sixteenth and havenโ€™t heard a word since. Thereโ€™s got to be a better way to drain the swamp without losing the baby in the process.

Because during the sale period, you may actually be at a disadvantage in terms of visibility. Pay-to-play (GD/AN style :xf.wink:)

I'll live for the week. 25% off my already fairly priced names? No thanks. For those who price as moonshots, I totally get it. But my names are either fairly priced or underpriced.
