Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Atom, your search is still not working properly. @Atom.com

Go to your home page - and click the ".ai domains - popular" pulldown. You come to a lovely page that is titled ".ai domains". Now type a search. I typed "brain". What appears? .com .net .io, etc. Weird no? I came here for .ai - clicked the appropriate area for .ai - and I'm not shown .ai.

ai section.png

After typing a search (i typed "brain") you can see the results

The header says "The Home of the best .ai names"
And then below it .ai domains. And yet, I'm presented with all sorts of TLDs

The search doesn't work for auction filtering either.

It is working for me currently, but a few months ago I had that problem. Should you be using Chrome, you might try clearing the last bit of the cache, that is what I needed to do to get search on Chrome working again for me.

The search doesn't work properly when you search in your own portfolio using keywords. The first time fails.
6 months on ATOM, six hundred names, 540 plus, 60 premium, money spent on coins and logos, no sales, no enquiries, no offers, zero results, only fireworks and special effects 🎆

At those times, the entire www.atom.com domain is unresponsive for a few minutes. That's something on the infrastructure side of Atom, not in the browser. I think Atom would do well to designate a separate subdomain for Sellers and Creatives, e.g. sellers.atom.com, so that (bulk) actions won't disrupt the accessibility of the main domain and marketplace. Because it happens far too frequently, every day.

I was trying the white label and promoting the entire catalog of atom listings along with my own listings but my custom email and 800 number don't seem to transfer over consistently on these minimal landers.

Also for every name on my white label that isn't one of my own when ya click them it shows the name of the seller that owns the domain either in text or their own logo.

Having atom.com show up on my white label not horrible but having thousands of logos of each individual domain seller show up on my white label gonna scare anyone away with brand confusion.

So for me the current answer is stop promoting the entire atom catalog on my white label and just promote my own listings or just stop altogether with it since custom email/phone don't appear to work either. @Atom.com

Yes. For me it is spinning forever adding any type of names this afternoon - was working normal this morning.
I tried logging in and out, and using a different browser, but all the same.

I'm wondering if there are any technical issues with the Atom offer/negotiation/acceptance system for buyers, as I'm still getting lots of offers (I forward traffic to Atom), but virtually zero responses from buyers when I counter, and now I'm suddenly getting offers from Afternic and even Sedo, the last of which I haven't heard from in a year or so.

Whenever I see this happening, I'm always worried something is stopping these buyers from continuing with the Atom negotiation. Like the Atom email server has been flagged and messages are deleted/sent to junk, there is a server/site issue or something else.

I have trust issues with the Atom system overall. There are too many cases of inconsistency. Like, I'll come across an issue with just one or two names, but others are correct. It leaves me wondering how many names might be displaying something wrong, and I can't check every single name on a regular basis. I like what they are doing, and I like the people... but I don't trust their tech / system.

I've experienced the same.

Possible reasons:
  1. Atom brokers don’t seem to earn commission for closing sales—unlike Afternic and most others—so there may be less incentive to push offers forward. This might also lead to a more hands-off or automated follow-up approach, which can reduce the urgency buyers feel.

  2. Offers may be passed to sellers more easily, possibly because Atom wants to keep the buyer experience simple and frictionless. While this simplicity encourages negotiations, a bit more upfront filtering might improve offer quality for sellers. For example, Atom could add a short buyer intent questionnaire before an offer is submitted (e.g., “Do you have budget approval?” or “Are you ready to complete the purchase within X days?”) to help screen for seriousness.
Overall, I do appreciate Atom and the innovation they bring to the space.
