Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Watch
Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Thanks for the detailed info, Bob. I believe Atom has since updated their AN policyโ€”there don't seem to be any coin requirements anymore, and I don't think the 'Enable Afternic' step is needed either.

From what I can tell, any premium name can now be listed on Afternic with no strings attached.

Let me know if you've seen something different!
I am pretty sure that is not correct. You can only list names that you have requested approval for listing in Afternic, and the rules remain about 10% or more higher pricing on Afternic and BIN only (no BIN/offer) landing. If your name does not have the AN tag that I have boxed in red (by going throught the process) it is not authorized for Afternic listing.

I know of no recent change in the rules, and just went through the process today for a new Atom Premium name. I added some screen captures to my earlier post on the process, and corrected that it is not a pull down menu but a selection from a popup at bottom.

I am pretty sure that is not correct. You can only list names that you have requested approval for listing in Afternic

Atom has only 2 requirements for Afternic eligibility with premium names:
  • You used a coin while submitting the domain for review
  • the BIN price on Afternic is above Atom BIN price by atleast 10%

Source: https://www.atom.com/partial-exclusivity-option

So a coin is required, but you don't have to specifically request listing every name on Afternic. As long as you submitted with a coin, there's no issue. Those "AN" icons next to names are from the original listing requirements, which have since been modified. They no longer apply.

You can also check on this syndication page to see which names are eligible for Afternic:

Right. But none of that goes to what you said "I believe there is no longer any coin requirement, and no longer any requirement to 'Enable Afternic' -- any premium name can be listed on AN.". There is a coin requirement if you want to list your Premium name on Afternic. It isn't always shown by the AN symbol (for example my names show a coin instead). However, I've seen the Afternic symbol after acquiring names via the Wholesale marketplace and it helps me know the name is eligible for Afternic listing. Without it, the buyer must pay 2 coins to make it eligible (happened to me a few times). @Atom.com you should update this info on the Wholesale sales page so we know what we're buying.

But if you want to list a name on Afternic you need to either have initially paid a coin or pay 2 coins after it becomes premium. So what you said "any premium name can be listed on AN" is incorrect (unless you can provide a source for this recent unannounced change)

Thanks for the information re syndication link when all names have used a coin during submission, and one is doing a one time spreadsheet uploading to Afternic with the 10%+ price. Clearly efficient way.

But I don't see how that handles names that were not originally submitted with a coin. With the individual method you can use 2 coins and get permission to list that name on Afternic, with the badge changing to confirm it.

Even if an individual always uses a coin on submission, which I do, if one buys on the wholesale marketplace you will end up with some names that did not have a coin on submission. I see no other method to get permission for Afternic listing and to not generate the error of improper Afternic listing.

A Premium domain listed at Afternic without using coins will be flagged and restricted.

Right. But none of that goes to what you said "I believe there is no longer any coin requirement, and no longer any requirement to 'Enable Afternic'

Right, that's why I updated with new information:

1. Apparently, there is a coin requirement
2. But there is no requirement to "Enable Afternic" -- any name submitted with a coin is automatically eligible for Afternic

You still need to enable it manually so they can verify the asking price and ensure it complies with the agreement you acknowledged.

No, this changed a while back. I never do this and I've sold many Atom premiums via Afternic

You still *can* do it, if you want to make your life more difficult. But it's not necessary.

I got approved of 26 premium listing and it's almost a year but there hasn't been any sell or inquires. Have you often sell domains here? What's the average waiting time that a premium domain needs to sell at ATOM?

STR (sell through rate) varies widely depending on the quality of names and your skill as a domainer.

Without knowing the quality of names you have, I'll guess that you're a new investor with a novice skill level.

So I'd probably put you somewhere in the .01 - .015 STR category, meaning that with 26 premium names in your portfolio, you'd likely get one sale every 2.5 to 4 years.

Small quantity. What are your atom domain scores?

Assuming a modest 1% STR, you might sell 1 name within 4 years...

Atom provides this but not much context behind it. 26 names are very few though

if you used coins for premium listings, then you are also eligible to cross list on Afternic. Do that immediately if you haven't. You are also automatically listed on Sedo. So your names are listed when someone searches for it on registrars, via direct type in to the URL, and via Atom search. There are really only tiny avenues to sell outside these methods (some small marketplaces like Daaz) and outbound. Nothing is stopping you from outbounding to bring buyers to your name.

Then you sit and wait. Welcome to domaining.

Show attachment 273491

The Time to Sell (weeks) chart in the dashboard is the avg sale time of the premium names that sell -- not of all premium names.

So this would not help in determining when you can expect a sale.
