Unstoppable Domains โ€” Expired Auctions

Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

As background, Premium listings are exclusive to Atom due to the significant marketing investment we make to promote these domains. To maximize visibility, we syndicate them to Sedo and other partners, giving them additional exposure across hundreds of registrars and through a broad network of partners we've established (and growing).

We also allow sellers to manually list Premium domains on Afternic to ensure visibility across all potential buyer search paths. In many cases, buyers initially discover these domains through Atomโ€™s marketing but complete the purchase through their preferred registrar because they already have domains at that registrar. We support that flexibility and do not charge any commission on such external sales. In fact, we go a step further by offering a commission match program, where we make an additional payment to sellers when these sales happen outside our platform.
Here you're saying that you allow sellers to manually list premium domains on Afternic.

@Atom.com will there ever be dark theme for landing page or is it only available for ultra premium? I for one prefer it over all the light themes available .

Automatically marking a domain as โ€œsoldโ€ or notifying sellers of a pending sale too early can lead to confusion or false expectations. It could also restrict sellers from accepting other legitimate offers while a non-serious buyer stalls the process.

I disagree, and a simple email or notification that a buyer has made a pledge to pay via escrow should be the base minimum, as the alternative (doing absolutely nothing) brings with it a lot of potential negatives. I'm not saying "mark it as sold", but I am saying "do something" so we're not all sitting here with our asses hanging out the window.

And after all, I already get all kinds of notifications through Atom, so what's one more?

Either that, or give sellers the ability to disable Escrow.com as a non-integrated payment option, since for me, it's far more trouble than it's worth.

To apply for Afternic, you need to use coins. You must also set the price at least 10% higher without using LTO.

I agree. Give sellers the option of removing escrow.com as a payment method. This needs to be an option.

Let me understand this right.

To list my domain independently at Afternic, I need to use coins at Atom - to get permission from them? And is it a few coins for every such domain?

@Atom.com
Most platforms don't want to inform you of an impending sale, because few sellers will try to skip the platform to avoid the commission. Eg. Try and identify and potential buyer, or simply by changing the landing page with contact email.

Afternic doesn't send an email when they put names on "Hold", and I understand they've reduced the instances of "On Hold" itself significantly.

My understanding is that you can upgrade one of your domains to Premium using one coin. If the domain is rejected for the Premium marketplace, your coin will be reimbursed.

There is also a free option (no coins needed), but note that you cannot list accepted Premium domains at Afternic. Later, if you decide to list the free Premium domains, you must pay two coins.

I experienced this after making many free Premium applications. I wish this had been explained more thoroughly right out of the gate.

If you use a coin at the time of original submission of the name to Atom for Premium consideration, there is no extra coin required. You do, however, need to select the name at Atom, then from box at bottom select Enable Afternic, and click that you want to list the name on Afternic, and agree to to conditions.

These are stipulations re coins etc:

After you do that, there will be a little AN tag (see below from one of my names) showing by the time, which was not in the one you showed.

I always do coins at time of submission for premium consideration, in which case you do not need to more coins for Afternic listing permission. You do need coins if they were not issued at submission time.

And as others noted, make sure that the Afternic price is at least 10% more than your price at Atom, and also note that you must have a straight BIN, no make offer negotiation. They list all the conditions when you activate Afternic permission.

UPDATED: I have edited this to correct that it is not a pull down menu but rather the selection at the bottom, and added images.

Where is that option located? Oh, I see, it appears in the blue taskbar across base of page which appears AFTER you select a domain in list view, thanks.

I always do coins at time of submission for premium consideration, but I think it might be two coins if you do it later (could be wrong).

Yeah, it needs 2 coins to list

Hi @Atom.com The team said that in the first quarter they would launch new tools for logo designers. Q1 is already over, and there's no news. When should we expect the innovation? Thank you.

>15 weeks (and counting) for domain appeals @Atom.com

I realize you're focused on new products and other fun things, but it's important to also give effort towards the primary goal of the platform which is to get listings approved for sale (or rejected so we can move along).

Appeals likely require humans, so it's about the only thing Atom's AI doesn't handle. You can bet AI has, for now, turned off all .now approvals.
I'd love to know how many full time employees Atom has.

Thanks for the detailed info, Bob. I believe Atom has since updated their AN policyโ€”there don't seem to be any coin requirements anymore, and I don't think the 'Enable Afternic' step is needed either.

From what I can tell, any premium name can now be listed on Afternic with no strings attached.

Let me know if you've seen something different!

I believe there is no longer any coin requirement, and no longer any requirement to 'Enable Afternic' -- any premium name can be listed on AN.

The submission with coin was the rule and I haven't heard of any changes to this. Source?

I've noticed that Atom's AI logo generation has improved significantly over the past few months. I no longer 'need' to switch to my paid Ideogram subscription, as the results are consistently better. Plus, Atom's image credits have become much more affordable (currently 10 cents/credit).

Since my portfolio consists largely of two-word dictionary combinations, this might play a role in AIโ€™s ability to create suitable logos more efficientlyโ€”especially compared to more abstract 'empty vessel' brandables.

I do notice that it is more difficult for non-.com domains than for .com domains. Atom's AI includes the extension in the logo for non-coms and it takes significantly more retries, because it often gets confused. I wish the extension could be left out of the logo for non-coms.

The moment you notice that ChatGPT cites your existing Atom domain lander as a source for generating a new description for your domain.
