Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Squadhelp grew too big too fast. Seller listings no longer getting the exposure they used to in the marketplace which has drastically reduced the sell thru rates. Even though SH claims their sell thru rate is around 20%, I feel itโ€™s more like 1-3%.. if it were 20% then with my portfolio size Iโ€™d be selling 2-3 names per month... been with SH for 6 months, 2 sales and none for the past 3 months. I think they should take a second look at their stats.

@JudgeMind Thanks for the feedback. I would like to address how the sell through is calculated;

We calculate two types of Sell Through Rates:
  • 12 Month Sell Through - This is the percentage of names that sold after being listed in our Marketplace for 12 months or longer
  • 6 Month Sell Through - This is the percentage of names that sold after being listed for 6 months or longer
Our average sell through for listings that have been live for 12 months or longer is currently about 20%. Similarly, the average sell through for listings that have been live for 6 months or longer is currently about 9%. The sell through rates are updated daily for each seller as well as for the entire platform.

As the Marketplace grows, we do expect this sell through rate to come down - however we plan to continue to ramp up our paid marketing investment to drive larger number of buyers on a month on month basis.

Brandable sales can take time, and in many cases, it would require waiting for 6-12 months before starting to see sales. However, your feedback is well noted, and my main point of this post was to clarify how we calculate the sell through metrics in case there was a misunderstanding.

@GrantP Please I need clarification

When submitting an unregistered name, what does "this name has been submitted to the marketplace before" mean?

Does it mean that

a. The name has been submitted before & rejected by SH

b. The name was preapproved but rejected by the creative

If A is the answer, it would have been better it was clearly stated that it had been previously rejected.

If B is the answer, then it's not fair. So many scenarios can play out, a creative can mistakenly click on reject, a creative can reject a listing & allow the name to expire, then another creative tries to submit the name or the creative sells the name to another creative.

In all of these scenario, how can the situation be resolved?

The way to get an answer on that is to message them the name and ask for more clarity. I think it means it was already rejected but they would know what it means better than us.

That too big too fast looks like the massive amount of basic/basic plus listings that hit the site and appear to be in a much larger proportion compared to Premium. Some of the names are really bad and donโ€™t belong there.

I can see that being a problem eventually with people weeding through some bad names to get to better ones. Itโ€™s a free for all right now. I think it would have been wiser to limit how many you can have on Basic per account. People would have to be more choosey if not able to upload everything and the kitchen sink.

Basic/Basic plus, are they searchable?

@Regietron it can be either of these scenarios. In case of unregistered domains, we currently do not allow the submission of same name by a different creative. In the past we used to allow this but it led to quite a bit of confusion because the names were getting registered on behalf of the second creative while the original creative was unclear why that was happening.

We might revisit this in future but at this stage we would like to keep the submission of unregistered domains simple. You are, however allowed to register the name yourself and submit it as a registered name even if it was previously submitted as an unregistered domain by a different creative.

One thing I personally will avoid is bumping up any listings to increase visibility โ€œboost visibilityโ€. SH charges you 500 points to do this. I tested it with 5 of my listings, it bumped them up but there were still thousands of names shown above mine which resulted in no or little boost in views, no leads and no boost in shortlists. Not worth doing in my mind.

The only way I could see this being beneficial is if it boosted your listing to the first page of the marketplace, otherwise there is little benefit.

@JudgeMind, can you share how many views and shortlists did you had for the two names, in the moment they have sold and how many views/shortlists you have for you best names?

One name was only listed for two weeks. Had 500 ish views and 9 shortlists

Other was listed for 6 weeks. Had 21 shortlists and around 1000 views.

My top names have 30+ shortlists and >3000 views. But no buyers interested. I believe that 99% of my views are coming from type in traffic and backlinks. These names had high views when parked too. Name with most views is Vib.io, but itโ€™s because of the crypto coin Vib or viberate. Lots of backlinks and type ins. Iโ€™ve requested to have this name removed from SH as they werenโ€™t willing to increase the price.

Then their impact on the visibility of premium listings is insignificant.

When I go to the new listings each day there are significantly more non premium than premium. They do in fact effect search results.

I thought that only premium names showed in the marketplace?

Really? Are you certain about this? @GrantP what's the true visibility of basic/basic plus in the marketplace, because it makes no sense having them compete with premium (curated) listings.

I thought that only premium names showed in the marketplace?

Me too.
