Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
AfternicAfternic
........ As of now I have only received 3 actual visits to my domains from the search path on Atom. Which I don't understand how I can have so many views and shortlists if I'm not being found in the search path, which is where the endusers will be shopping..

You mention not being found in the search path, where is that information in our dashboard? Would like to see that data, too. Thanks!

@Atom.com I would really appreciate it if you could add Pool, Beach, BeeKeeping and Hunting to the Landing Page Settings...possible use categories. Thanks

That said, we recognize the need to improve the experience for legitimate buyers. We’re actively exploring better ways to strike that balance, including clearer communication during the payment process and the option to place a small upfront deposit to temporarily hold a domain. Our goal is to reduce friction for buyers while still protecting sellers from stalled or uncertain transactions

One thing is for sure, what you're doing right now isn't working, and there is serious risk in losing the trust of potential buyers. Once mindsets like "don't buy at Atom as your domain can be stolen by another buyer" gain traction, it can lead to some pretty bad outcomes, especially as wire transfer is the go-to method for most corporations.

And I'm not even sure why Atom has to be the Black Sheep of the domain marketplaces, all of which advise sellers when an offer has been accepted, and again when the payment has been received. Afternic/GoDaddy, Dan, Sedo, Saw, Dynadot, and probably everyone else does it this way because it works. We're not little children and we would appreciate the relevant transaction info be provided as it happens.

One simple way you can immediately improve on this is to advise the seller when there is a "purchase pending" on a given domain sold via wire transfer, so we have a head's up on what's going on. That way, at least we're in the loop and can act accordingly if new offers crop up.

Personally, I would have no problem in waiting 3 days to see if a wire transfer does appear, and holding off any future negotiations during that short period of time.

But keeping everyone stumbling around in the dark, solely due to "feedback from several sellers who were concerned about their domains being tied up", is just going to exacerbate the trust issue.

Hey guys,

For anyone interested in having multiple WLM sites, or using categories (with a URL structure) within your current WLM site, I asked Atom chat about it...

Me: Can we choose certain names to include in the WLM and exclude other names from being listed there?

Atom: At the moment, all your listed domains on Atom will appear on your WLM by default.

Me: Are we able to have multiple white-label sites within the same account?

Atom: You can only create 1 WLM per account.

Me: Is there any way to set up Categories? So we can do this:
https://www.ourwlmsite.com/travel
https://www.ourwlmsite.com/realestate
https://www.ourwlmsite.com/tech

Atom: Unfortunately, WLM doesn’t support creating custom category URLs like /travel or /realestate at this time. However, let me forward your message as a feedback for future considerations. In the meantime, you can still use keyword-based search and filtering on your WLM to help visitors find domains by theme or niche.

Me: In that case, I have no choice but to set up multiple Atom accounts so I can have separate WLM sites for each category.

Atom: Yes, you can create multiple Atom accounts if you'd like to set up separate WLMs for different categories.

Me: Will there be any conflicts when setting up new accounts that have the same domains as the original account?

Atom: There will be a conflict. Each domain can only be listed on one Atom account at a time. If you try to add a domain that’s already listed on another account, the system won't accept it. If you’re planning to split your portfolio across multiple accounts, you’ll need to remove the domain from the original account before adding it to a new one.

Ugh. Too much of a hassle, in my opinion. It'll take too much time and energy to set up. I think I'll have to look for an alternative solution.

Nice information. You need to post this to their CEO on Twitter/X.

@Atom.com

I reached out via chat regarding how to remove a custom favicon from my WLM account and revert to the default Atom logo. The response I received was:

"At the moment, we’re unable to revert to the Atom default favicon once a custom one has been uploaded. You may upload a new icon if you'd like to update it."

Could you please address this issue or provide a way to restore the default Atom favicon?

Thank you.

As a workaround, you can try to upload the Atom.com favicon again ;)

@Atom.com The "Track Price" feature is shown on "Request Price" landers, too. Why?

It was listed May 21
It says if you don't point your NS to them that you aren't shown in searches. Makes me wonder why I add standard listing that I don't plan on upgrading or pointing my NS.

Edit: I'm also pretty certain this is something they just snuck in there, because I never read that once when I was going through the process of joining Atom the past few weeks

Right now I have 10 standard listings pointing my NS to Atom...

Standard listings sell from time to time. The reason you use Standard is not for search-ability but for the lander and 7.5% commission. There are other lander choices of course, ranging from free to 10%. But of course free is misleading since you have to collect payment and that's usually gonna run you ~5%. So it's really 5-10%, and Atom's standard landers are right in the middle and come with some nice bells and whistles (logos, voice descriptions, text descriptions, phone/chat to ask questions, and fast payouts).

I just reported what seems to be a bug in downloading the portfolios. "Download Status Filtered Listing" doesnt ever arrive by email like it has up until today and that is for both Premium and non-Premium listings.

Also, for Premium listings only, I see "NaN domain(s) matched" which is a Javascript error.

I've reported this to support and am wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same?

I have the same 2 issues. I requested the download about 15 minutes ago -- usually arrives via email under 2 minutes -- many times under 1 minute.

For the Premium names, I see the same error message "NaN domain(s) matched", but it does retrieve my premium names.
